Last night we had some decent wind and wet snow. The result was big new drifts across my yard. Drifts narrowed the road down the hill, hard to see the road with the white on white and lack of tire marks.

Yesterday we had a flat tire on our newer flatbed truck. When I went out to my vehicle, there was another flat waiting for me. I was able to drive it to the repair shop, where we had two vehicles at the same time being repaired.

Dutchie went outside a couple nights ago and I forgot she was out. She was outside all night. It was above freezing, and she would have been banging on the windows if she wanted in. Nothing. After it got light she would be usually be waiting to come in. Catless. Just before I went to work she showed up like nothing was wrong.

Have heard of two recent accidents regarding snapping steel cables on boats. One resulted in a fatality. The other led to a Coast Guard helicopter medivac, and that victim is OK right now.

LOUISVILLE keeps winning in the Big East conference tournament, beating Marquette today. It is a tough tourney. Hope they win, do not expect it. They will be in the BIG dance either way. The real threat is KENTUCKY. GO BLUE.

It is still my dream to see UL and UK in the finals. It was close a couple times...

Foxes are regular visitors. NOSEY has returned a few times. Very friendly. I left the door open a minute, and he was inside the mud room. No pictures, sorry.

Bought an iPhone for company business. ME with a SMARTPHONE.? I used to think OXYMORON meant a stupid teenager...

Watching The Learning Channel with back to back specials. 911 stories about Flight 175. Then right after a special about the Japanese tsunami. WOW. A really tough twin bill to watch.

Looking forward to vacation at the start of May.

iaotter, osdianna: Thank you :)

Quit? Indeed, not in my vocabulary lol. The going was TOUGH many times, but I was able to make it through and I thank everyone for letting me blow off the steam and vent before critical mass was reached and an explosion was imminent.

iaotter: no rest for the weary (well, today there is). Gotta put my case together for the lawsuit mediation on Wednesday since my lawyers haven't done much ...

Way to go, Rotty! I knew you weren't a quitter (can you say fence?)...and we are all proud of you.

Now find a good way to celebrate that lets you relax for a few days before you start those revisions.

Ylee, you're right about the "more than a farm team" - they made the USN&WR top ranking.

Well.. wanted to let everyone know - and say a BIG THANK YOU - I passed. Now I have some revisions to do, but that was expected and I know it's "normal."
As long as I get stuff in by the first week of April, I can after the end of April claim that piled high manure title ...

It was a long road and I thank esp. Joe for letting me vent, whine and steam off every so often. THANK YOU!

YLee says: The Vandy kids are in it more for the education that comes with going to a good school than just a "NBA farm team".

I like their style. You are so right about the "farm team" thing.

Dotmom, Vandy became good simply because they recruited good atheletes that fits into the coach's system of play well, then(and this is the important part) keeps them for four years!

Four Ky. schools made it to the Dance this year: UK, UofL, Murray, and WKU! Not bad!

thank you iaotter. Mucho appreciated! :) Keep fingers crossed starting around 1 p.m. EDT. Hope the grilling won't leave me all charred. Well done is fine lol. Rake me over the coals, but don't totally burn me.

dotmom: no right, no wrong. VERY subjective and my committee is not all friendly toward me as the saying goes. Major prof is showing a donkey's behind a lot (as seen by the comments I got this past Monday w/ less than a week to go and fix the stuff requested).
As for giving up, nah, well beyond point of no return. And last I checked, it wasn't in my vocabulary anyways LOL.

Yes, indeed, you caught the drift. It's an endurance test. Not even what you truly know. Not a race, but a crawl and if you have the right people, it's good sailing. If not, it's a problem (yea, seems problems is my middle name).

At this point, all I care is to squeak by. With the degree under my belt, no one ever comes back and actually ASKS how well or poorly did you do, unless you graduate with extra honors. Hard to do these days. I just want to get that X in the "pass" box. Tha-tha-tha-that's all :)

Hang in there Rotty. You have lots of positive thoughts coming from my corner of Iowa. Keep on keeping on. You can do it.

Rotty, don't give up - never give up? I don't know. It just seems like you are into some serious stuff and where and when will it end - who knows. Is there a right and/or wrong to what you are doing or is it subjective? This is a real test of your patience and endurance it seems. Good Luck!

University of Louisville won the Big East Championship last night. It wasn't pretty but it worked. UK - #1 in the country for many weeks, just lost the SEC championship to Vanderbilt by 3 points (I think). I always thought Vandy was a "head school" - when did they become such good athletes?

dotmon: in response to your comment on the previous blog entry: stamina... well, I guess. Maybe more stinginess as in "I've invested so much time, money, energy, etc. that I've reached the point of no return and have to continue."
After getting and email on Monday w/ a note "please carefully read and address ALL comments BY MONDAY" I about was ready to run, hide and give up. Admittedly, the 459 comments (which could have been made amidst the previous 659 comments sent several weeks prior) were an extremely daunting task. Alas, I have addressed them (maybe I missed one or two, but I have just completed addressing what I needed...).
Now I gotta put a 10 minute presentation together for tomorrow's defense. I could use a few good thoughts (and prayers for those so inclined).

I do know that just about anyone has to make SOME changes to their work. There is at least a 30 (possibly 60) day grace period to do so. Just hoping it's not a "retest" nor a straight forward "fail."
I can live w/ reworking some of the text and even retesting if needed, but failure isn't an option ... I hope...

My head is spinning so badly, I just about forgot my own name. lol.

Hope the basketball is going well. Did I miss the Sweet 16 and if so, was there a contest, Joe? Sorry, it feels like I have been diving in the Marianna Trench for the past few weeks with practically no communication to the outside world (yes, I know about the tornadoes, but not much other stuff has seeped into my conscious by now).

Go find a kid to show you how it works...they are the only ones who really understand...if you have access, that is. Good luck!

ODing on basketball. UL won big last night and they will have their hands full tonight with Notre Dame. Cincinnati just beat up on Syracuse winning by just 3, but quite a win for the Bearcats. Not sure I'll be able to stay awake for this last game, but will surely try. Hope Joe is getting a chance to catch some of these games. We Kentucky folks love our basketball.

As I understand it then, you are currently naked to the visible eye as you descend Haystack?

White on white in white?

Gnu Guy must therefore be employed to prevent any accidents. I’m suggesting he attaches a pair of red underpants to a long stick and walks ahead of your car for the time being.

Now, he could use ANY red underpants, but having viewed the latest batch of photos carefully I would suggest that once Gnu has climbed out of the snowdrifts, to get to the road, his personal undercarriage could be approaching a soggy enough state to require some dry undergarments for the rest of the days usage. So ideally the red ‘flag’ should fit him.

Two problems solved in one.

Does anyone at APPLE know YOU have purchased an iphone?

This amounts to a tough test for their product, the kind of research and development study opportunity that money couldn’t buy (and which they possibly can’t afford to spend). Manufacturers drive cars into brick walls to test their chassis strength. They set light to furniture to test its flammability. They test fire missiles to ensure their capabilities match expectations.

Put an iphone in Joes hands and they can expect all this to happen on DAY ONE.

And this is BEFORE Joe discovers a whole new world of something called GOLF APPS.

Plus the latest version of the iphone has VOICE CONTROL. You press the round button for a couple of seconds and then shout a question at your phone, and a helpful voice speaks the answer back to you…

Assuming it can understand your accent. BIG ASSUME.

Try it.

Ask if it knows how much DANGER it’s in right now.

Possibly not as much as GNU and his frozen shorts.

But I can solve that one too. Just download the ‘Virtual Zippo Lighter’ App. It’s totally windproof. Hold it up close and it’ll have his undercrackers VIRTUALLY dried out in no time at all…

Mind you don't burn his stick though.

Second! as I'm waking up.

I have a dumb phone. Not a big fan of phones. Rather do e-mail.

The new phones let you do either, along with internet, GPS and various other formerly separate functions, each of which used to require a dedicated device. Now you can carry them all in your pocket, and you can attempt to operate them all through the phone's dinky keyboard.

I've been looking at the Motorola Droid. Maybe someday soon I will join the masses hunched over a little widget, straining my eyes to see the tiny screen, getting all frustrated when the reception is slow. My mind will be out there in the cloud, floating free.

Hallelujah, free at last!
