Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 29, 2016

A slow moving low pressure system will bring a messy weather pattern to a large portion of central and eastern Europe on Monday, while a trough of low pressure deepens over western Europe.

A robust area of low pressure will move east northeastward from the western tier of the Mediterranean Sea to the eastern edge of The Alps. Not only will this system pack strong winds, but a mixture of rain, high elevation snow and thunderstorms will impact a handful of countries. Gusty winds will affect southern Italy, Greece, western Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary and southern Croatia. The eastern edge of this storm, known as the warm sector of the low pressure system, will be capable of producing moderate to heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms across Italy, Slovakia, Hungary and a large portion of the Balkan Peninsula. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is forecast to receive between 25 to 30 millimeters of rain with a high of 46(F)/ 7(C). A swath of rain, freezing rain and snow will spread northward across a large span of the European Mainland. Moderate precipitation will develop across countries as far west as Switzerland, and as far east as Belarus. Prague, Czech Republic, is forecast to receive between 20 to 25 millimeters of rain with a high of 40(F)/ 4(C). High pressure will dry conditions out over the southwestern corner of Europe.

Meanwhile, an Atlantic system will produce light to moderate precipitation over southwest Norway, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. By the late afternoon and evening, a wave of low pressure will bring heavier rain and high elevation snow to Ireland and the United Kingdom. Dublin, Ireland, can expect rain throughout the second half of Monday with a high of 47(F)/ 8(C).
