Well, it seems that after a slow start Spring is now arriving! This week we will see temps rise into the upper 70s, maybe even low 80s. That is a bit above normal for this time of the year, but I'm sure most are not complaining.
There is a strong storm system forming in the mid section of the country as well as in the deep South. This system will be moving to the East as the week progresses, bringing us in Maryland a chance for our first thunderstorm activity of the season. The exact timing of the storms will depend on how quickly it moves East, but right now I am looking at late Thursday morning into Friday as the best chance for storms. Again, this may change if the forward motion of the storm slows. Temps this weekend will considerably drop off from what we will see mid-week. This is due to the arrival of the cold front currently in the mid-west heading our way.
Now is a good time for a reminder: I typically forecast storms and snowfall. Therefore, if the forecast calls for simple rain (no flooding) you will not hear from me. I will post updates about thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding, tropical weather effecting MD, etc. So if you aren't hearing from me, the weather is fine.
As we enter our strong storm season, I do recommend that everyone purchase a weather alert radio and turn it on.
I will have another update later in the week. Follow me daily on Twitter (@wxmanmd) for weather tidbits and updates.
