update Sunday morning
The Heat Advisory continues through 8:00 pm with temps in the upper 90s to low 100s again today. Keep yourself cool by staying indoors and hydrated.
The cold front moving into the area is currently along the OH, PA, NY borders moving toward the area. Ahead of the front there are currently showers. As the afternoon progresses expect cloud cover to move in, keeping the temps from rising as high as yesterday. Storms are expected to form as the front gets closer, later this afternoon, but these storms should be scattered in nature, not a line of storms. Those who do experience these storms could see hail and strong winds. There is only a 2% risk for a tornado, and I do not see that happening at all.
Please take precautions for the heat, stay indoors and drink plenty of water. The area is under an Excessive Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory.
Sunday will be a bit cooler, although that is relative. The issue for Sunday are afternoon storms. With the heat and moisture in the atmosphere, coupled with a cold front moving through the area, we are primed for storms. I will know more tonight or tomorrow morning and will update you, but suffice it to say, tomorrow afternoon could end up being interesting.
Here is what the NWS meteorologists had to say about it this morning: "ANOTHER ISSUE FOR SUNDAY WILL BE THE POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER. ATMOSPHERE WILL BE PRIMED DURING PEAK HEATING WITH STRONG INSTABILITY...AND PLENTY OF MOISTURE. DEWPOINTS ARE FORECASTED IN THE LOWER 70S...WITH TEMPS IN THE MID/UPPER 90S. MODELS FORECASTING CAPE OF AROUND 2000 J/KG. IN ADDITION...SUPPORT FROM THE UPPER JET IS ANTICIPATED...WITH A BROAD AREA OF UPPER DIVERGENCE ALONG THE FRONT. GOOD LOW LEVEL SHEAR WILL ALSO EXIST. BEST TIME FOR SEVERE WEATHER LOOKS TO BE DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS...DURING PEAK HEATING.
