Hurricane Preparedness Links and Ideas
By: collinsfarm , 12:27 PM GMT on June 05, 2006
The 2006 Hurricane Season is officially underway. There are some interesting predictions for this year. Some say the Northeast and Eastern Seaboard are due. Others have predicted strikes in Florida and the Northern Gulf Coast. No one can really be sure.
I am not an alarmist about these things. I choose to prepare in advance to be ready for whatever may come our way. Having gone through more storms than I care to remember, I started many years ago with a few basic items.
First, it was canned foods and jugs of water. Next came a decent little battery powered radio and the best flashlight I could afford. Another season I added a propane camp stove and a little battery powered TV. Then came the generator a small window a/c unit and other assorted things that make "camping" after a storm more tolerable.
My written plan evolved over several years. I have to say that having everything written down in a checklist eliminates a lot of stress when a Hurricane Watch or Warning is posted.
If you don't have a written plan or know where to begin, take a moment to look over the links in the "My Links" section of this blog. Past blogs contain a lot of useful ideas from many other folks.
I hope everyone has a safe season.
