Summer Drought and Summer Colds
I visited Maren in Atlanta for Dragoncon over Labor Day weekend. Will and I had a great time but everybody caught Amber's cold. So we stayed 3 days insetead of 4.5. The remarkable weather was that Atlanta was in the midsts of an "Exceptional Drought" along with parts of Alabama and Tennessee. That is the level beyond severe Drought and extreme drought!!!! At the same time, we ran into severe showers in south central Georga on the way up there, very scary. Along highway 75 The Kudzu, grass, cosmos wild flowers, and pine trees all looked fine.
Maren's first garden in Tucker did not do well, but it was not obviously due to the drought. I'm surprised the sighns of water stress were not more obvious.
There are not large numbers of wildfires being reported either even though the entire region is at abnormally dry or drier. What is obvious is that the LAKES ARE LOW. They are down across the Water Management District and they don't seem to be comming back.
New global maps show lakes shrinking by 75 to 95% in Africa. Polar lakes are breaking through the permafrost and sinking into newly thawed aquifers.
