Currently, at 8:08 AM, it is -18 C (-0.4 F) with a NW wind at 17 kmh, Going down to -23 C tonight, oh yay!?!? Overcast with a chance of snow. High of -12C with a windchill as low as -25C. Breezy. Winds from the NW at 10 to 20 km/h. Chance of snow 40%.
Driving to work demands a lot of attention with the amount of snow we've had in the past few days. One must remember to put the transmission in neutral when coming to traffic lights or stop signs. Especially since there are layers of freezing rain under the snow. Because of the volume of traffic coming from the West, as Stony Plain and Spruce Grove have really grown in population and housing starts in the past three years, one is hard pressed to find motorists that follow the "one car length for every 10 miles per hour" rule. This leads to many rear enders at highway speeds. Exactly what occurred yesterday on my way to work. The Yellowhead was a parking lot for 15 km straight through to Spruce Grove.
Fortunately in my case I have an option. I travel over the Winterburn Road overpass and decide whether I want to go the Yellowhead or the Parkland Highway to enter Edmonton. Yesterday the Parkland was slow but at least it was moving. This morning I'm heading out to traffic with even more accumulations of snow than yesterday. Wish me luck and reasonable, skillful commuters!!
