DirecTV to drop The Weather Channel from its lineup

By: TropicalAnalystwx13, 12:45 AM GMT on January 12, 2014

In the summer of 2008, NBC bought The Weather Channel; since this time, we have seen a transition from an all-weather channel to one that focuses more on entertainment shows and little around-the-clock weather coverage. This has angered many of the channel's loyal customers, and a good majority of long-time viewers have moved on. Over the past few weeks, DirecTV has been in negotiation with The Weather Channel due to the high number of complaints -- today, it was announced that DirecTV plans to drop The Weather Channel in favor of WeatherNation, a channel that provides 24/7 weather coverage, on January 14.

In an attempt to remain on-air, The Weather Channel has launched "Keep The Weather Channel", an initiative for customers of DirecTV to take action and prevent the company from removing TWC. The newly-created website notes, "For over 30 years, The Weather Channel has been the most trusted resource for disseminating timely information to help prepare and protect families across the nation against weather-related emergencies. But now DIRECTV is threatening to remove this critical life-saving community resource from 20 million households. We’re working hard to reach an agreement with DIRECTV to keep The Weather Channel in its lineup. You can help!"

The Weather Channel has suggested that you contact DirecTV or your local member of Congress to express his disapproval of the removal of the channel. To explore more and take action against DirecTV, visit:
