Been working on my new Weather Station from Acu-Rite. I think I will be saving my pennies to purchase a higher quality Weather Station in the future. My Acu-Rite 5 and 1 Weather Station Pro contraption is a great way for a beginner like myself, to get into hosting a Weather Station. To be honest, I purchased the unit because of the price! But, it is missing basic things like "Rapid Fire" to WU and horrible WiFi range on the Weather Bridge.
One thing I did a lot of research on, was the ability to "Rapid Fire" to WU. I knew up front that the Acu-Rite Weather Station could not "Rapid Fire". But being an I.T. Consultant for the past 25 years, I knew I could handle the setup to get it to "Rapid Fire" quickly. I ran across a blog from a Kevin Key who posted his program that basically capture the information from the Acu-Rite Bridge and posts that information to WU. The program works great! Got it up and running on my old Acer NetBook! :) Have not used my old NetBook in 2 years, now it makes a GREAT system for my Weather Station.
My other BIG complaint is the WiFi strength of the Acu-Rite Weather Bridge. To be blunt, it sucks. I have the Bridge within 10 feet of the 5 and 1 sensor and it still only gets about 2 bars of signal strength. Remember, it is advertises at 300 feet! Oh well, you truly get what you pay for. Since I only paid $99 for the entire setup though, I can't complain, and I get to stick my toes into the waters of hosting my own Weather Station. :)
Have a great day!
