Janet; I've had that 'visitor' map up for a long time; that's why it's logged so many visits. Hope you have a great day, too!

Linda; Those Lady Peas sound delicious! Wish we had them up here in New England. Our veggie growing season is just starting to get going; the first lettuce is about ready now- YUM!

Hope all is well & enjoy your day!

Hi, Beth,

The full name of Lady Peas is Lady Cream Peas, because of the creamy texture they can have - plus, some people do cook them with cream and (usually) ham.

They're very small, and just amazingly tasty. When I first started eating fresh lady peas, limas and butter beans, I couldn't believe the difference in taste. I'd always hated limas, especially - they seemed starchy and tasteless. But fresh? The best!

We're in the middle of good stuff, now - fresh tomatoes and sweet corn, peas and beans, canteloupe, etc. Great eating - but hotter than Hades, and I'm already late getting to work, since it's supposed to hit over a hundred today, with heat indices of 104-110. Welcome, summer! It's still better than welcoming Debby, though!

Good morning, Sandi! Those Lady Peas do sound delicious! Thank you for providing the description!

I had a lovely Sunday and I hope you did, too! I managed to get most of my chores completed, but it seems the weekends are never long enough to get them all done!

Happy Monday to you and enjoy the dry weather!

Hi Beth .... lady peas? Linda posted link in her blog about them, explaining how to cook and serve them. I then found this to explain what they looked like.

Lady Peas are my very favorite summer delicacy and they are only available for a short time during the summer and you can only get 'em here in the South.
They are very good green but best when matured into the cream coloration. The small pods resemble kernels of fresh white corn cut from the cob and are just as tender and almost as sweet. Lady peas are best cooked with very little seasoning, nothing too heavy to mask over the delicate, buttery flavor. I hear tell some folks say white acre peas are the same and maybe so, I guess we a little slow down here, not up to changbut if you ever get your hands on some tiny, fresh picked lady peas, I think you'll be convinced otherwise.

Happy Sunday to you - we are supposed to get two dry days Monday and Tuesday before the rain comes again - Deep Joy!

Flakeman; It's SO NICE to see you back! Hope all is well and that you're managing to stay cool in this hot spell. We're up in the 80's... so unusual for Cape Cod! Thank goodness for a steady breeze or it would be really toasty!

Janet; I've just read our updated forecast and saw that we're supposed to reach the upper 70's today and 81 degrees tomorrow, so it looks as though summer is officially here. :-)

Good luck with that wild fire; I hope the winds are low. Please be safe! Fires have been known to jump rivers and lakes! (And it would make a real mess of your Portal View!)

Max is napping (I'm sure he would say he's only resting the eyes) so I thought I'd take this time to do a few check ins to see what everyone is up too.

we are also warming up here along with Pros but I believe we are only going to the mid 90's. No rain in sight for us. I have a drip hose on some of our newly planted trees. I had noticed they were getting droppy yesterday. We could use a really good rain. there is a rather large fire in the Croatan forest, it started as a controlled burn but got out of hand and covers several hundred acres now. We are getting lots of smoke from it. Its only 10-12 miles away as the crow flies.Lucky for us there is a river between us.

Bug; I've never had color-coordinated tools before, but since my ex-hubby absconded with ALL my good tools and left me with a box of rusty junk, from now on my tools are going to be easily identifiable. It really annoys me to have owned some of those tools for nearly 40 years (many gifts from my father and brother) and taken good care of them, just to have them stolen by a lying, cheating creep. GRRRRR! Okay... rant over! :-)

The bear has been relocated to a place where he can be safe from people and the people safe from him. As a former Fish & Wildlife employee, I agree that bears and people are not a good mix- have seen the photos (and touched the dead bears) that resulted. But, that said, it was kind of cool to have this bear visit our peninsula and grace us with his presence. He was an especially handsome bear, especially for spring. He looked well fed and fluffy- some spring bears can look pretty thin and scruffy. But, I'm glad he's back where he belongs in bear country. :-)

Sandi; I love sugar-snap peas- they're one of my favorites. I've never heard of Lady Peas, either. I have Snow Peas planted in my garden. :-) YUM!

Yes, it's still sweater weather, here, but it's supposed to get into the 70's this week- hooray! I hope you temps warm up, too!

Proserpina; Ooh! Sounds as though it will be TOO warm where you are! 90's and 100's are too warm for me- hope you can stay comfortable in the A/C!

Lady peas????

I never knew peas had been genetically engineered!
Peas are peas, are they not? I have heard of sugar-snap peas, but do tell what Lady peas are!

Oh, Beth, your cry of "This IS June, right???" is what we have been saying this month, too!

Hope your week is going well, I am living up to my Flickr name this week... Sandi(busy lady)! hehehe

Color coordinated tools? LOL

Well, we ladies must keep up appearances.

You've got a bahr? Oooh, yes, I'd be careful out there. You're right: bears and people DO NOT mix well. Esp. if you have idiots feeding them. That is just wrong and very dangerous.

We've got black bears here in SC, even down on the coast, like ya'll have.

Once every couple of years or so, I see a blurb in the paper that one has been sighted in/around residential areas but it's mostly up around Georgetown. Near Caro. I can't remember the last time one was spotted around Charleston, proper.

Linda; Ooh! Lime green! I actually ended up getting some teal green tape to put around the handles of all my tools, to go with a set of plyers I bought with teal green handles. When I get this project done, all my tools will be color coordinated. Maybe I'll even find some flowery stickers to put on them, too... then no man will ever want to purloin them!

I've loaded up on some fresh veggies, too! I'm still eager to harvest my own, but it will be a while before I can start picking in my garden... all but the lettuce, anyways- I'm hoping to pick lettuce in a week or so! :-)

Keep us posted on those recipes! I love finding new recipes to add to my collection of favorites!

We've had such a long stretch of rainy weather that our birds had no choice but to fly in the rain. I'm hoping that our spring rains are over and now we can get onto the beautiful summer weather that New England is famous for (because our springs are so blah!) and enjoy some warmth and sunshine! I attended a cook out yesterday and even though it was a fairly nice day, we were all in our layers of sweaters and coats as we ate our delicious meal outdoors! Have I skipped a page on the calender? This IS June, right???

Proserpina; Happy Sunday! Thanks for stopping by with the lovely flowers! :-)

Morning, Beth ~ I laughed at the pink tool kit. For a while, my pride and joy was a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver with a lime green handle. I had a lime green eyeshade that just matched it, and I want you to know I was quite the sight out on the dock when something required that screwdriver!

I'm just back from the farmers' market, and had a real haul today. Lady peas (fresh and already shelled!) three varieties of tomato, corn, yellow squash and bell peppers. Yum!
I had some fresh limas last week, and they were the best I've ever had. I may have to make a drive over to the farm this weekend - the guys at the market didn't have any limas, and I sure would like some more. I'm going to pick up a bit of smoked pork at the butcher's too, to cook with some of the lady peas. I've got some other recipes I want to try - they came from a chef in Alabama, and if they're any good I may post them.

Right now we're having some sunshine and rain, and one of the baby bluejays just showed up at the feeder. He's a mess! Soaking wet, with feathers going every which way. I assumed birds knew enough to come in out of the rain, but maybe not. Or, he may just have been extra hungry and decided to make the flight for some 12-grain bread. I'm still waiting for the mockingbird babies to show up. The parents are making regular visits for their raisins and apples - one of these days they'll bring the kids!

I came to your house hoping for my sunshine fix only to find more gray day up there. I wouldn't mind the gray if only we got the promised rain with it.

We get bears around here also but it is a very rare sighting. Saw a cub on the lane a couple of years ago. I know Mama was somewhere but did not stay around to look for her.

Janet; Yes, the weather has been wonderful! Just love it! We're supposed to get more rain on Wednesday, but until then we'll enjoy the sun.... it's been a long, rainy spring!

Linda; I enjoy the reminiscing, too. Recently, I realized that this year will be my tenth year on WU- where did the time go? And what a wonderful ride it's been with all my WUBA friends! You've all enriched my life and I so cherish my online friendships with you all. :-)

Yes, we're getting ready to roll into summer now with the trees finally all leafed-out! The early roses are blooming and most of the spring flowers are petering out, and, I'm enjoying working in my veggie garden and nudging it along to production- ever anxious to pick my first tomato!

Most weight loss programs are slightly embarrassing and silly... I don't think there's any such thing as dignified weight loss. :-) Good luck to you & keep us posted! The only thing that works for me is to cut out white flour and sugar and exercise like crazy.

Aren't broiled scallops delicious? I have a couple of pounds in my freezer, just waiting for a special occasion! YUM! They're my favorite sea food! (I may be a bit biased because my Dad was a commercial sea scalloper during my childhood.)

Enjoy your book!

Karen; We've had an incredibly long string of gray weather this spring; it began in late April and lasted until the first week of June. It's still cool here; we're predicted to have temps down in the 40's tonight, but our daytime temps get up into the 60's or low 70's lately. Summer settles in slowly, here.

Sounds like you're getting ready to start your summer in earnest! How wonderful! It's too bad about your lettuce. I'm having a problem with something munching on my spinach, carrot greens, broccoli and cauliflower and I suspect bunnies as well!

Atta girl for donating blood! Three more days left.... :-)

Code; The bear hasn't come anywhere near us (so far as I know) and hopefully Fish & Wildlife trap it and remove it to the mountains of western Massachusetts before someone stumbles upon it and gets hurt. Tourist season will be in full swing soon and that means swarms of vacationers running all over the countryside. This bear has already shown that it's not afraid of humans so I'm really concerned that there could be problems ahead.

I'm trying to keep tabs on where the latest bear sightings are so I know if I need to keep an eye out for it. I don't want to run into it, either, even with Sammy with me. As a former Fish & Wildlife employee, I've heard plenty of stories about how bears and people don't mix well!

BriarCraft; Thanks so much for checking in here and letting me know how your recovery is progressing! I'm so happy to hear that you're feeling better and more mobile! Yes, I do so enjoy my hikes with Sammy! They do us both a world of good!

Sandi; There must be something in the air,, because my back went 'twang' recently, too! OUCH! I can sympathize with what you're going through! The good news is that I've been feeling some relief the last few days and hope to be pain-free soon- hope you are, as well! Have a lovely week, too!

OGal; You're so right, she does need her screwdriver back! My nefarious ex-husband also stole most of my tools from my tool box, leaving it full of rusty junk. I didn't know this until months after he left and I went to the tool box that I've had for 25 years looking for some tools and discovered that all my good tools were gone. I need to buy one of the girly sets in pastel colors with flowers all over them that no man will ever want to abscond with. GRRR!

Hi Beth - L took my screwdriver! How dare he! lol

Your view looks really great from close quarters!

Actually, I could do with it at the moment. I bent down to pick up something on Saturday morning and my back went "twang" !!

So I haven't been on the computer much this weekend, what with my back and being out at a friends all day yesterday.

Have a great week:)

Your view the last couple of days, with the sunshine, has been really nice. It sure makes a difference when the clouds clear away -- literally and figuratively.

Now that I'm getting to be mobile again, after 2+ years of nasty bone-on-bone grinding in my hip, it seems like the clouds have cleared out of my life. The simple pleasures of being able to take a walk are really under-rated and taken for granted until you can't. I know Sammy enjoys your walks, and I hope that you do, too. It really is something to be treasured, especially with your best friend.

Did you or Sammy see, smell the black bear on Cape Cod? Never saw one in time I spent in E KY mountains. I always went to Gatlinburg areas to do so. Such amazing creatures, don't think I would want to visit one on a walk however!

Hi Beth - I read in one of your posts down there that you (and Shore) are also experiencing lovely temps. Our marine layer has been iffy this year. Sometimes showing up early, sometimes not. But the temps during the day are just perfect! I love low 70s. That is also just perfect for me.

I have four more work days before I can call it summer vacation. This last week is always a hectic week. Between work, watching the boys a little extra and our last check out day, and a very good friend retiring, there is something on every day of this week.

Soon enough I'll have 'nothing' to do! LOL

Garden needs a little cleaning up. Not sure if I ever said anything to you, but something ate every single piece of lettuce that was growing in my garden, and I had a lot. Beginning to think bunny - because it wasn't snail. I can just tell. It's like it was pulled up out of the ground!

Well, getting ready for a blood donation appointment soon. Take care!

Hi, Beth - isn't all this reminiscing fun!? I didn't have any trouble with your link, either - it was fun to see all those photos. I even remember them - not something that always happens these days!

It looks like real summer in your photos now - deep shadows from all that greenery. It sounds like you're the one with perfect weather - 70 is just right for me. It's long gone around here until fall - even at night we're having lows in the 70s now. I'm wondering about hurricane season. I haven't had even a twitch yet - that feeling that I "ought" to be paying attention. Well, one of these days I suppose it will happen. Until then, we'll just keep living la dolce vita!

I finally have taken myself in hand re: getting some weight off. I have a brand new system, devised by my very self and I hope guaranteed to work. I'm not even going to tell you what it is until I've worked it for a while, because it's just slightly embarassing and silly. But, if it works, I'll share. ;)

I guess the next big thing on the event calendar is the Olympics. My goodness - it's already been quite a year for Britain. I hope they go off just fine - I'm not even sure when they are. Just a sec.... Ah! Friday, July 27 is opening day. So there's time to rest up a bit before that excitement starts.

I saw somewhere in one of your blogs a mention of broiled scallops - I have a few flash-frozen ones from the North Atlantic in my freezer. I got a package, justifying the cost by the fact that I can divvy up one package of 15-16 for four meals. They are SO good. I'd forgotten how much better they are than bay scallops - at least to my taste. A little lemon, butteer and garlic, a salad on the side - pure luxury.

Hope all is well. I'm going to try and get my cyber chores done so I can do a little reading tonight. I picked up "Hemingway's Boat" from the library, and just renewed it without even having opened it. I can't do that this time - I've only got one renewal left!

Sandi; Thanks for letting me know! That IS strange; it's just a link to the WU blog with photos. I just tried the link but I don't get any warnings; this must be some hypersensitivity in your anti-malware software. I know that some are more sensitive than others. I use AVG.

Here's a photo of you in 'my view'. :-)

Gamma; Happy weekend! It's been a beautiful weekend here with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70's- just perfect for me! I loved seeing the OtherBug photos, too, and all the pictures from the WUBA Pancake Breakfast- that was so much fun and I so enjoyed meeting you all in person! It's hard to believe that the event was almost 5 years ago, now.

Hi Beth, the link you put in the Other Bug thread to your photos of Karen, Wanda and I in the mobile home opens onto a malware warning... strange!

Janet; It looks as though we'll be getting some warmer weather, too! We may even hit the 70's today! Woo-hoo!

I sort-of have weekends off. I have two part-time jobs and one is a telecommuting position; this weekend (and many others) I will be working from home.

Thanks for stopping by for a quick visit..
It looks as if we are heading back into the warmer weather again. That means no more open windows & airing out of the house until Fall probably.
Have a great day! Do you have week-ends off?

Karen; It's so nice to see things looking like spring, even if the temperatures have been rather chilly, lately! The wind has swung around to the SW now, so I'm hoping that we'll get some warmer temperatures today! Hope all is well with you!

Sandi; What a beautiful garden! You must love sitting out there and enjoying the lush plants and lovely little pond! A monthly photo would make a nice calender illustration!
