weather patterns

By: NEwxguy , 4:19 PM GMT on January 26, 2012

weather patterns are strange, some can last for months others will last a month or two.Especially in the winter, the first half of the winter will be locked in with one pattern and suddenly shift half way through the winter. Some winters hold on to the same pattern all winter. The current above normal temps and storm track have really been in place since early last fall and there are no signs this is going to change in the near future. In fact it looks like it will hold through most of February. There will be small winter outbreaks, but the artic air which is up there, just doesn't have the mechanisms and pattern to bring it down except for brief periods. So you still get the storms, but with a lack of really cold air,you get a mixed bag,and also the threat of ice storms, and that is what is in store for us tomorrow night with rain in eastern portions, mix in central areas and a threat of a serious ice storm west and especially in vermont and new hampshire. This will be something to watch,a lot of precip with this system which will come right over southern new england so we amy get a real warmup in southern new england.

Hi NEw and all the friends here.

I guess this is a good thing your winter is milder than expected/normal.

I am sure Betsey is happy about that; now if it will just stop raining all the time.

Last year you all had so much snow and ice at this time. I even got to see snow when I went to Baltimore last year!

Stay warm and have a great weekend.

Good afternoon,to all,Alley,Mass,and Looking.
I just got back from shopping for my lady,as it is her birthday next wednesday.Got her some nice amethyst errings since that is her birthstone.
Not a bad day out there today, but clouds moving in and wet messy weather moving in this evening.
Mass, don't think driving will be a problem tomorrow if you don't head north,I think there are going to be serious problems in NH.
Alley, rain is good, and it does look strange to see some grass still green, which indicates the ground does not have much frost very deep.
Looking, looks like the flowers are confused by this weather.Hope they don't come up too far,we will get some very cold air before the winter is done.

Quoting sheslookingUP:
Mass, my crocuses and daffodils are starting to come up! I think Punx Phil is right if he says spring will arrive early. In fact we have hardly had winter. You have got your hands full with the older family members and you totally deserve a nice cuppa. Been there, done that, and it is not an easy time of life. Good wishes to you.

Hi She!!

Great hearing from you again, and thanks for your supportiveness regarding this past challenging week. Thankfully, we seem to have gotten a a better handle on things and are finding ways to adapt to a bit more challenging lifestyle. We just hope that my 90 yr old father-in-law will gradually be able to adapt to living without some of his independence as well. It's so tough for that particular age group, and I always remind my hubby and brother-in-law to try and put themselves in his shoes before possibly lecturing too harshly.

Nice to hear that you're garden's ready to spring to life a bit earlier this year! Hopefully, this evening's snow, sleet to freezing rain won't damage or hamper your daffodils or crocuses' growth. It might be a good idea to cover them with frost sheets, if available, for safe keeping. If not, let's hope they remain hearty enough to bring you some color fairly soon after our drab, grey, but mostly milder winter!!

Until then, hope you stay warm, safe, well and in touch!

Good Afternoon NEw ~

Well, now that I've had my umpteenth cup of tea, coordinated my mother-in-law's transportation for her outside doctor's appointment today with her nursing home, hubby and my hubby, and have received word my father-in-law's auto insurance claim has been processed, I'm feeling a bit more relaxed and focused so to post. LOL!! Never a dull moment around this household!! LOL!

Thankfully, the sun's still a-shinin' and the ground is clear of any snow, etc. before we receive a mixed bag of obstacles this evening (around 7:00 pm?). I sincerely hope that the timing of this overnight event is such that, by Friday am, the roadways, etc. won't be too much of a mess. Black ice, sleet or any types of icy weather always greatly concern me. Hopefully, there won't be too much of a problem by tomorrow afternoon, when we have to drive my F-I-L to Derry, NH. I don't think I could take on another car accident just one week later for, if the car accident doesn't get ya, all the paperwork and bureaucratic red-tape will.

I read on groundhog.org, a bit earlier, where Punxsutawney Phil will most likely NOT see his shadow this year; which means, a much earlier predilection of spring's arrival! YEAH! If not, there'll be more than a lot of angry birds around here. LOL!

We also go a sneaky coating of snow last night as a little unstable air moved through the area.
