Random thoughts on a Friday

By: NEwxguy , 1:04 PM GMT on July 08, 2011

cloudy, damp Friday with occasional showers and thundershowers rolling through. Can't wait for the end of the day.Just some random thoughts going on in my head.
1.Tragic death at the Texas ballpark last night as a father at the game with his 6 year old boy, fell to his death.Just a freak accident. Ball was hit foul I believe in right field and Josh Hamilton got the ball and tossed it up into the stands, and this father moved forward to catch the ball for his sun and his momentum carried him into the railing and he flipped over the railing and plunged 20 feet head first, while his son watched it happen.Second death at the stadium in a year,a guy fell last July also.

2.Watching Casey Anthony in court yesterday really irritated me as she was all done up,hair down, smiling and giggling and flirting. She has no clue what her life is going to be like when she gets out does she.

3.The capture of Whitey Bulger a notorious mobster from South Boston,is one of the great stories for our times, and I gurantee you will see a movie in the not too distant future. But on talk shows,I sit stunned with people calling in calling him a Robin Hood of their town, one guy calls and says whats the big deal he was a mobster, killing people is their job, thats what they do.Last time I checked,as past work, killing people is not such a good thing to put on your resume.
And looking in job categories, mobster and killer aren't listed.

4.Our Redsox are back in first place this morning.I get the feeling that this is the way its going to be all year with the Yankees and Redsox back and forth and Tampa Bay rays not far behind.Should be an exciting season.Whats more impressive is the redsox are on a roll with 3 fifths of the starting rotation out.Should say 4/5 since John Lackey is basically out,the way he's been pitching.

Hi NEw!

Glad I don't live in central to eastern PA, the southern portions of NY State or this season's unusually water deluged CT right now! They've all been really hard hit this season. Let's hope these bad storms stay well south of each our towns/cities during the remainder of the afternoon and evening! Tired of the crash, boom, bangs, in general, let alone, from t'storms!

Hi NEw, lunchtime checkin in. I heard about that accident and you are right, can't possibly view the video because it is too tragic. I did see the guy throw out the ball with his foot though at the Red Sox game. That was cool.

We are hot and dry here but that will change Sunday with a front coming which will hang around a while like yours. It will be a welcome break. I forgot to water last night. I've been trying to water every other day. So I'm hoping the plants will survive today's hot sun until this evening.

BBQ Sun w/my brother and my dad will be able to go then, too. He is just itching to get back to golf, but that will be a couple of weeks. Not much else going on.

Mass--good luck with your renovations!
Have a great weekend NEw!

Hi,Mass, good good luck on the renovations. One never knows what happens when renovations start.I hope everything goes smoothly for you, when there are problems,it can add so much more stress to one's life, like we need more stress in our lives.

Good comments about the Casey Anthony case,I have said to many people who are outraged and say the justice system failed.I totally disagree. It did work. There was no hard proof of how she dies, where she dies or who knew about her death. So you van't convict someone, because you feel she did it.
She has all these plans about what she is going to do when she gets out,but will be impossible for near future due to the mob mentality that is out there right now.Thats why I think they decided to keep her a little longer, they want to see things calm down a little bit, although feelings are going to running high for a long time. I just hope someone doesn't do something stupid.

It was an horrific video, which I don't even want to watch.I can't get the picture out of my head of the young son looking down from the railing at his father lying below.

Hi NEw ~

I had not heard about the tragic death at the Texas Ranger's ballpark last night. What a horrific and yet preventable end to this father and fan. If this wasn't the first time someone met an untimely death due to low enough railings, then the organization should be held criminally responsible. I certainly feel for the six year old son whose enjoyable outing with his Dad turned into a longterm vertitable nightmare. Hope the family receives due compensation and mental health assistance, in spite of this occurring in Texas.

I know how angry and frustrated people are over the results of the Anthony case, but quite truthfully, the correct legal verdict was rendered. The prosecution did not produce any direct link to Casey's alleged crime, i.e, evidence as to how, when and where the so-called crime was committed. Additionally, there were no credible witnesses that came forth to give any incriminating statements she might have made to others those nights she went out and partied post dispppearance or how she behaved as a mother prior. People forget that the jury had to remain sequestered, view only admissible evidence and took copious notes during the course of the trial. They were not privy to all the over sensationalized hype created by the mass media, etc. People also seem to forget that, in the past, innocent people have been found guilty of capital crimes, put to death, then later found to be innocent after forensic or DNA testing proved such too late.

Only time will tell what becomes of Casey Anthony, but if citizens succumb to the increasingly pervasive angry mob mentality and decide to take matters into their own hands, what does that say about our democracy and justice system which is still far superior to those in other countries? I'd hate to see us revert to the days of the Wild West or like the story of "To Kill A Mockingbird". -- Just a thought.

I was so happy to see our Red Sox pull out a win over the Orioles last night while the Yankess lost to Tampa Bay. You're right about the yo-yo effect between these two teams, as it now depends on how well our crippled bullpen can produce against the remaining various teams. Fingers crossed! LOL!

Hope this dreary Friday goes by quickly and you can bask in an enjoyable summer weekend. Come early Monday, we have renovators coming in to begin work transferring a long heating duct to another side wall. It's the beginning of "This Old House", as after this is done, new windows and a sliding door are being installed. Hope they do a decent job and it doesn't end up with more problems or drag out into an eternity. I'll try and keep in touch as often as possible. In the meantime ....
