Winter storm warning canceled,now advisory

By: NEwxguy , 1:54 PM GMT on February 10, 2010

Our Nor'easter is on my doorstep, expected to start snowing lightly around 10 or 11 a.m. in my area, with the worst conditions expected this afternoon.
Along the Mass turnpike and south will expect the most snow 8-12,but that northern line of heaviest snow could waver north or south depending on the track, but this is going to be a powerful storm, with very strong winds along the coast and the cape and the islands.Possible power outages and even the chance of some thundersnow.
I am at work right now but will be switching to working from home by noon,do not want to be out on the roads when the heaviest of the storm hits.
I expect this to be a very strong storm,my pressure has dropped to 1002mb already and the storm is just getting its act together off the Delmarva pennisula.

so now the excuses begin

ONE OF THE BIG PROBLEMS TODAY WAS THE MAJOR SNOW BAND THAT SAT
ACROSS LONG ISLAND INTO S CT. OUR THINKING WAS THAT THE BAND WOULD
WORK FURTHER TO THE N THAN IT DID. WHEN SOME HEAVIER PRECIP
FELL...IT WAS IN THE FORM OF SNOW. HOWEVER...WITH THE LIGHTER PRECIP
BETWEEN THE INITIAL WARM AIR ADVECTION PRECIP AND THE SNOW BAND...
THIS ALLOWED TEMPS TO INCREASE JUST ENOUGH TO CHANGE PRECIP OVER TO
RAIN ACROSS E MA WHILE ONLY LIGHT SNOW FELL ACROSS N CENTRAL/W MA
INTO S NH. THE BAND HAS MOVED INTO CENTRAL CT/RI AND EXTREME SE MA.
NOTING 4-5 INCH REPORTS FROM NEWPORT AND CHARLESTOWN RI ON THE
LATEST PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...AND STILL GETTING UPDATED
SPOTTER REPORTS.

So with all the hype, things look like they are not going to be so bad,now saying 3-6 inches.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY...
...WINTER STORM WARNING IS CANCELLED...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY. THE
WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

THE ADVISORY COVERS MUCH OF MASSACHUSETTS ALONG AND NORTH OF THE MASS
PIKE INCLUDING BOSTON.

LIGHT SNOW HAS BEEN AFFECTING THE REGION FROM LATE MORNING THROUGH
EARLY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES WERE SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING
ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION AND LITTLE IF ANY ACCUMULATIONS HAVE
OCCURRED THROUGH MID AFTERNOON.

WE DO EXPECT SNOW TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING HOURS. THIS COMBINED WITH SUNSET WILL
ALLOW THE SNOW TO BEGIN TO ACCUMULATE. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6
INCHES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS AND ROADS WILL BECOME
SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF AND END AROUND OR
JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT.

snow is starting to pick up,and it looks like my meeting is coming to an end pretty soon,so hope to get out pretty soon, the good news is the temps have stayed warm enough where the roads are just wet right now,I'm sure that will change as evening approaches.

Mass, this meeting turned into a marathon,so far it doesn't look too bad out there, but looking at radar,I'll be in the heavy snow pretty soon.LOL,I'm at the point where I only laugh now, kind of like the patient in the asylum, sitting in the corner laughing?

Hey New ~

Here in Cambridge at 2:45 we have received only a few flakes drifting slowly down this morning around 10-11; then nothing but a vague spitting at present. All those schools that closed--Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, Belmont, Lexington--all for nothing. Seems like usually when there is a lot of hysteria about a forecast, that is when not much comes of it. Of course, I could be having to eat my words later in the day, but right now it is fairly mild in temp--above freezing-- and just a little no-count moisture.

Thus far, we've hardly received any snow at all and, if anything, it's coming in the form of a fine mist. Whew! Guess it's the luck of the draw or as in real estate terms, 'LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION'! (Where one is luckiest to live right now).

Hope your meeting ends soon and you'll make it home safe and (sound?) before everything hits the fan! It seems like many of us are trapped inside of snowglobes these days!

Good morning NEW. We got our share of the white stuff yesterday and last night. Looks to be about 4-6 inches of snow on the ground. I know some areas got alot more.

Keep safe and if you don't need to be out and about in it, then enjoy just sitting back and watch it come down.

Have a great day dear one.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 1 AM
EST THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING
TO 1 AM EST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BETWEEN 10 AM AND 1 PM ACROSS THE
WARNING AREA AND MAY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING. SNOWFALL RATES OF UP TO AN INCH PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE DURING
THIS TIME. THIS WILL RESULT IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL THIS AFTERNOON...AND
MOST LIKELY DURING THE LATE DAY COMMUTE.

AS FOR SNOWFALL TOTALS...SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 9 INCHES ARE
PROBABLE...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE BY THE TIME ALL IS
SAID AND DONE AROUND MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS IN
MIDDLESEX COUNTY ARE EXPECTED NEAR THE MASS PIKE...WITH THE LOWER
AMOUNTS OF THE RANGE EXPECTED IN THE NORTH.

THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY ON HOW FAR NORTH THE SHIELD OF
HEAVY SNOW WILL PROGRESS. IF THE SYSTEM MOVES A BIT FURTHER NORTH
THAN CURRENTLY FORECAST...HEAVIER SNOWFALL AMOUNTS CAN BE
EXPECTED. HOWEVER...A TRACK SLIGHTLY FURTHER SOUTH WOULD LIKELY
CONFINE THE HEAVY SNOW TO SOUTH OF THE MASSACHUSETTS PIKE.
HOWEVER...WE HAVE MODERATE CONFIDENCE THAT THE EVENING RUSH HOUR
WILL BE TREACHEROUS NO REGARDLESS OF THE EXACT SNOW AMOUNTS.
