winter storm

By: NEwxguy , 1:52 PM GMT on February 09, 2010

Since New Year's weekend storm,we here in New England have been lucky, while the Mid-Atlantic has been targeted with all the storms. While the Mid-Atlantic will get hit again, this storm will be far enough north that southern New England will be hit by this one, maybe up to a foot in some areas.
The problem is how far north does the heavy snow bands get, right now it looks like Conn. RI and SE Mass are in the area to get the most, but models are split, some putting the 6 -12 as far north as Boston.I have a feeling it will move farther north, but where I live in the suburbs west of Boston,I'll be right on the line,I could get 6,or a foot.
This should be a quick mover and end by midnight tomorrow night. It's definitely going to blow up once it gets to the coast,so a lot of winds with this storm, the Cape and Islands could see winds over 50.

Hi NEW, been snowing here most of the day but not much has accummulated on the ground. Just a little over an inch but the winds have picked up now and its starting to come down a little heavier. Going to be interesting to see what we have come morning. I am sure my old shovel will get a workout...Keep safe and warm dear one. Hope you have an uneventful drive home.

Hey New ~

Hope your doing a bit better today morale and healthwise! This winter has wrecked havoc on us all in varying ways!!

Unhappy to learn that we're getting a bit more snow than originally predicted, but relieved that it's no where near what poor Proserpina and others in her region are experiencing. Heaven help them, as their homes and structures weren't particularly built for such weather!

Here's a rather aprospos tune, Harry Nilsson's "SNOW", to play for this miserable week.

Winter Storm watch has now been extended through all of Massachusetts and into southern NH and VT,so it appears they think this storms heavier snow may be more north then originally predicted, but we'll just have to wait and see.A deviation of 50 miles makes a big difference who gets hit the hardest.

An amazing story of survival from Haiti, they just found a man alive from the rubble, after 4 weeks. That seems to stretch believability, wondering if its true or not. He would have to have found some type of water in this time span,no way he could have survived without water after 4 weeks.
Doesn't seem possible its been 4 weeks already, probably feels like an eternity for the people down there.

...A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM MAY IMPACT THE REGION WEDNESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH
LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE
WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

THIS WINTER STORM WATCH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...SOUTHERN
WORCESTER...NORFOLK...AND SUFFOLK. THIS WATCH INCLUDES THE CITY OF
BOSTON.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER THE WATCH AREA WEDNESDAY MORNING
OR EARLY AFTERNOON. THE SNOW MAY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING. THE WEDNESDAY EVENING
RUSH HOUR MAY BE QUITE MESSY WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW FALLING.

INCREASING WINDS COULD RESULT IN POOR VISIBILITIES AND SOME BLOWING
AND DRIFTING SNOW. THE SNOW MAY BE WET ACROSS THE COAST AND BRING
THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW POWER OUTAGES. THE SNOW SHOULD DIMINISH IN
INTENSITY AND TAPER OFF TO FLURRIES AFTER MIDNIGHT.

THIS STORM IS STILL AT LEAST 24 HOURS AWAY AND THE EXACT TRACK
REMAINS A BIT UNCERTAIN. IF THE SYSTEM MOVES A BIT FURTHER NORTH
THAN CURRENTLY PROGGED...HEAVIER SNOWFALL AMOUNTS CAN BE
EXPECTED. HOWEVER...A TRACK SLIGHTLY FURTHER SOUTH WOULD LIKELY
CONFINE THE HEAVY SNOW TO THE IMMEDIATE SOUTH COAST OF NEW ENGLAND.

THE POTENTIAL FOR 6 OR MORE INCHES OF SNOW EXISTS ACROSS THE
ENTIRE WATCH AREA. AT THIS TIME...THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY OF
REACHING WARNING CRITERIA WILL BE ALONG THE SOUTH COAST.
