Looks like fair cooler weather through New Year's day. Unfortunately it looks like we are in for some rain/snow starting Thursday afternoon until Friday morning. The forecasts are calling for rain to changeover to snow. I am hoping the temperature stays low enough to keep it all snow. So far, at least in Salem, our temps have been staying about 5-10F below Clarksburg, where the NWS forecasts are aimed at. If it warms up above freezing Thursday, we may be in for a slick drive to work Friday morning since the temperature will drop way below freezing Thursday night into Friday morning. Seems the horses may be sleeping in the barn Thursday night to keep them out of the wet cold misery that night!
I suspect Thursday night onwards into next week we will have some very cold temperatures during the night. I will have to keep an eye on the wind chill because we may have to keep the horses in overnight and blanket them. If this pattern continues, it could be setting us up for a normal West Virginia winter and I would expect to see cooler temperatures, followed by a break and some snow. We'll see.
