2 Days Until Christmas

By: JanesVacation , 1:23 PM GMT on December 23, 2008

It is 12F and two days before Christmas. I had only left food shopping to do until the "last minute", but with this constant 24/7 snow I guess I will finally have to drive out on the snow covered roads today to go to the store.

My sister and her boys came last night and we ate cookies and talked and had a fun evening. Family brightens up the long, dark evenings. She made her gingerbread into the shape of chickens and brought them for us to smile at and enjoy. She is raising chickens in her backyard because she loves animals and thought it would be cool to have her own farm-fresh eggs. She gives the chickens the best care that any chickens in the world would ever have. This includes letting them run in her yard(weather permitting, feeding them homemade, hot oatmeal in the morning and going out for several visits a day to make sure they are warm and their water is not frozen. She loves those chickens and they reward her efforts!

What a wonderful story about the chickens - real and gingerbread, both! I'm just having a bit of fun playing after a terrific afternoon (I rescued a turtle hit by a car, for one thing, and discovered the woman watching me run through traffic had a friend who repairs broken turtles! She fiberglasses the shells after cleaning up wounds, etc.) Anyhow, this woman got a box, a velour towel, and took the turtle. The last I saw her she was headed toward the car, murmuring sweet nothings in its ear.... so, the turtle will have a merry Christmas, too.

Enjoy your family, and the snow, and all of it.
