Well the past weekend spathy & I got out of town in the cold weather for a fun filled weekend in the Florida Keys. We went camping to try out the new camping equipment we got for our summer vacation. It really was a bad time to go do to the weather in the south dropping to low 40s and highs only in the low 60's and winds up to about 35 mph and gusts to 45mph and the rain.
But being the true weather people we had to go out and find out how rough it could be. The tent was being put up in high winds and for the first time and not being able to follow the instruction that cam with the tent because it was raining like heck. We managed to get the tent up and secured and got inside. To our surprise the tent really kept the wind out and the rain.
Once we managed to get the camp set up and ready we started to take off the coats and forgot ( not use to it in South FL ) that the weather was really cold. Got the sleeping bags on the air mattress and thought that we were going to have to sleep in all of our clothes. I was surprised that the sleeping bags were warmer than I thought. It was like sleeping beside a camp fire on how warm they were.
We got through the night nice and warm. According to my blackberry weather it was about 40 degrees that night.
When we woke in the morning we said well that was a good night no wind on us and the rain stayed out of the tent. I think we can handle the entire weekend. Which we did.
Got a lot of good fishing in and thought about renting a boat on Sunday but the winds were to bad for that so we decided to head south and fish off the bridges going down to Key West. We were only 15 mile from Key West and we headed down. Fished off of maybe 5 or 6 bridges on the way. ( Have pole will travel). Every time we crossed a bridge we looked to see if it looked like a good spot to fish.
Well we finally made it to Key West about 3 hrs later and ate lunch. Then headed to Fort Taylor and civil war and WWI & WWII navel fort. Was very disappointed in it compared to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas' But too save the trip there we went fishing off the beach at the fort. Great fishing there. Spathy hooked a few big ones and I hooked a few snappers and a couple of groupers. The wind was still pretty strong off and on but around 5 pm Sunday it finally started to calm down and fishing was better.
We ended the night on the docks of Key West with the beautiful Sunset and all the boats coming in. We decided (Well spathy decided that we had to head back home since it was around 8 pm at this point and we had a 6 hr drive back home. Party Popper )
We finally got back home around 3 am and had to get up for work at 6am. Yes Virgina there is a 6am.
Hope you all enjoy the Photos and the Videos of our survivor
of the South Florida cold spell and remember we survived it camping out in it.
