Dr. Snowlove or How I stopped worrying and learned to love NOT having snow anymore

By: HeavySnow , 6:05 PM GMT on January 02, 2009

I am sick and tired of living with no snow. This mid-Atlantic region, but specifically the Washington DC metro area, has become the home of a burgeoning snow desert. It still gets plenty cold enough, although seemingly not as cold as before or for as long. The problem arises once the precipitation makes its move towards the beltway, the temps are consistently too warm for frozen precipitation or the air is too dry for it to make its way to the ground. Virga and extended outlooks on Accu-weather are just about the only way to see significant snow for the snow-deprived(nay, depraved) souls wishing for a glorious dumping of snow to shut down the entire region, and perhaps the whole east coast.

So I wait. Snow toys unused but not unloved, waiting in the carport and under the fading lights of the Christmas tree. Will they ever see action? It's not looking good for this winter or ever again for this locale. Rainball FIGHT! I'd ride out the bomb bay doors with the bomb and Slim Pickens if that would change things with the snowgods. They clearly are plenty angry at something. Maybe they're waiting for inauguration day to reward/punish us depending on which side of the aisle you fall on. Remember: SNOW = GOOD
Lots of SNOW = GREAT

So I wait.

Good Morning {{Heavy}}!
I keep wishing harder and it looks like it working. Glad I could help.
Please be careful out there driving today.
I'd ask if you wanted to come down for the Super Bowl and do some work, but since it's snowing I can forget that.

Here's hoping for lots of Heavysnow for you.

No fair Rays. Get those snowflakes back up here where they belong.
No snow here yet to speak of. Lakes are almost ready for skating though. The Potomac is frozen over side to side at DC, but still no snow.

Hey Heavy,
Guess what I woke up to this morning. Ocean-effect snow. Mighty pretty with the blue skies popping out behind heavy dirty-white clouds and little white pieces of styrofoam falling about.

Strange cegman, we're both predicting the same thing for our winter. A big fat whopping 0.0 inches. Oh wait, we've already had one dusting. A huge coastal storm it is. Oh please please please. Oh well, we'll be able to ice skate in a couple of weeks, maybe...

I was hoping he'd bring some snow from Chicago! Looks like we are entering a pattern that will bring one of the ingredients we need - cold air. Next we'll need some H2O. We don't get a lot of precip in DC during Jan/Feb, so my prediction is we'll have a cold spell here but no snow. Last year I think we had 5" of snow, this year it's looking like 0". Let's hope for a huge coastal storm late next week!

Hey cegman. I figured you were from the DC region, hence your knowledge of the weatherdome. Obama will be coming with the snow I guess. He is definitely bringing change if he can get the dome removed or at least temporarily opened so his girls can enjoy some snow. His warm connections with Hawaii and Kenya do not bode well however. Think of the children! All of WU snow-lovin children!

Not sure if you are aware, but there is a "weather dome" over the DC/Metro area allowing for the control of weather conditions by the US government. Our current president being from Texas doesn't care for snow, hence tough times for snow lovers over the past 8 years. Maybe weather changes are coming.

Oh Heavy,

I sure hope some of this snow gets to you.

I wish it were snowing on you and not the Philly area...
West Chester, PA is already getting
snow. My SIL flew in to Philly
airport early this morning on Red Eye
from Ca and Bets and Baron are
flying in this morning from
West Palm Beach into Philly..
I want them all to get to
land safely then be safe on
that 45 min drive from airport
to their home.
They have winter snow
warning all day today....
surely that is nearby you
and you will get some
of that snow. I hope so..

Crossing fingers that you get to get those snow toys out of storage this week!!!

Brutal cold coming, but where is my beloved snow? Ice skating is fun but it's better when the ground is white. If I don't get to break out the snow toys soon, I'm gonna explode.
I'd love to lend you a cup of snow huri but I'm all out!
Morning Rays.
Thanks gamma! Christmas morning was a blast with all 3 kids.

Hi, HeavySnow!

I got a note from a lady about how she thought I-80 could create its own weather because of the heating and cooling of the roadway. Maybe THAT'S what's happening to your snow around the Beltway -- all the heat from the tires and the road doesn't let the snow hit the ground. :-)

Still, I remember January 1996 in Fredericksburg (I worked in DC), and there was so much snow that they shut down the government (I think it was 2 days). That was the same month the movers came and slipped and slid our stuff out to Ft. Bliss. I can close my eyes and still see the semi's sliding sllooowwwlllyyy off the road in the ice.

Hope you get snow (and NO WIND!) Take Care! JM

Thanks code. Don't I know it. The pup is the most difficult of the 4 kids. Getting too dependent on us. Poor little Pumpkin. Grandma Pumpkin.

Sandangels are a bit too abrasive for me.

Look at me, I'm blogging just like old times.

And of course I'm accompanied by no snow whatsoever. Yippee.
