Summer 2006 Regular Season Point Standings (30 people played this week)
The regular season will run through September 15 and the playoff week will be the week of September 18-22.
September 11-15 will be a double point week.
The top player at the end of the playoff week will win a lovely weather-related prize (if not a previous winner in the last year).
If you would like your city and state listed next to your name, send me a note with the information.
Point totals in parenthesis are cumulative for only this week.
Maroon text indicates that these players had the best week. Green text indicates a perfect week. Bolded text indicates players played this week. (available via email version only).
Please verify your point total for accuracy. Any scoring updates will be immediately posted on the Web site.
Perfect Score: 9
It may only be the first week, but look at how the top of the point standings have changed! The top five players this week have yet to make it into any season's playoffs, and the only two players to score perfect weeks are a newbie and my little sister. This league's got some parity! Next week's games resume their normal schedule on Tuesday and Thursday. Make it a great weekend everyone, and thanks for playing!

Report: Holland Tunnel bomb plot uncovered
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- A plot to bomb New York's Holland Tunnel in an effort to flood the Wall Street financial district has been uncovered by the FBI, with a suspect arrested in Lebanon, New York's Daily News reported on Friday.
Weather in the News:
Climate change 'real and severe'
An expert panel convened by BBC News has concluded that climate change is "real and dangerous".
Temperatures are likely to rise by 3C to 5C by the end of the century, with impacts likely to be "severe" but not "catastrophic", the panel said.
It also concluded that politicians are unlikely to cut emissions sufficiently to prevent dangerous global heating.

Golf novice beats the odds to shoot 2 aces in 35 minutes
Sanjay Kuttemperoor of Brookfield has played about 25 rounds of golf in his life and has never broken 100. He's never even known the satisfaction of marking a birdie on his score card.
"My best score is either a 105 or a 106," he said. "I'm obviously not that good."
On June 24, Kuttemperoor made two holes-in-one in a five-hole span at Treetops Resort in Treetops Village, Mich. He used his Callaway 8-iron on both shots.
Lloyds of London set the odds for such a feat at 67 million to 1. Based on those odds, a golfer would have to play a round of golf 365 days a year for 183,561 years to accomplish it.

"Google" declared a verb
Having the public use your company name as a verb is, in one way, a marketer's Shangri-la. Many companies would kill for the name recognition and popularity of "xerox," "google," and "hoover." For the companies themselves, though, being "verbed" has its dark side. A company that does not defend its trademark risks losing it when it becomes a common figure of speech, which explains why Google is not happy about its recent inclusion in a new Merriam-Webster dictionary.
