Weather Update for July 15, 2005.

Baby Monitor Story
With us being new parents, we're learning a lot of things for the first time. Like, for instance, the whole "voices in the baby monitor" thing. A couple nights ago, we had put the baby to sleep in his nursery around 9pm, and I was outside with the dog when all of a sudden Lisa started hearing voices coming from the baby monitor speaker! It wasn't me, wasn't her, and Bryce isn't quite old enough to be talking in complete sentences yet, so she got a little unnerved. But after going into the nursery and finding a sound-asleep baby and no other humans, we realized that one of our neighbors must also have a baby monitor and set to the same channel - they were just telling their child a bedtime story. So we switched ours to a different channel and all is well, but if we ever want someone else to tell our child a bedtime story, we'll switch it back over to channel 1.

Mad Gab Results
Ok, several of you wrote in and told me that the second Mad Gab yesterday was the third time I've used it! I may be forgetful sometimes, but that Mad Gab is so appropriate! The memory must be the first thing to go after having a child, but as long as both games aren't duplicates, even if I goof up, you still have one new one to figure out.

Mad Gab #1 (13/23): Eye Pillow Fizz Sigh =

Mad Gab #2 (21/23): Aim Other Ranch Howled =

Excessive heat warning in effect today and Saturday...
Record high temperature today...
Excessive heat warning extended until 8 PM PDT (8 PM mst)

An excessive heat warning is in effect for today... Friday and
Saturday for elevations below 4000 feet msl in southern
Nevada... extreme northwest Arizona and southeast California.

A strong dome of high pressure remains over the region and continues
to produce afternoon temperatures that are at or near record values.
High temperatures through Saturday will range from 112 and 117 across
the Las Vegas Valley... between 119 and 124 along the Colorado
River... and between 122 and 127 across Death Valley.

An excessive heat warning is issued when high temperatures are
forecast to reach 112 degrees or greater. Persons in the warning
area are urged to avoid prolonged work in the sun, or in poorly
ventilated areas. Also, drink plenty of liquids and try to stay in
an air conditioned environment.

Today in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: A chance of afternoon thunderstorms, highs upper 80s. Same forecast this weekend.

Today in League City and Pearland, Texas: Showers and thunderstorms all weekend long, highs near 90. My advice: build an ark!
Flood Watch in effect until this evening...
Showers and thunderstorms will develop and move east-northeast at 10 to 15 miles an hour through 8 am. The strongest storms will affect the Houston metropolitan area and locations along and south of Highway 35 between Sweeny and Alvin. Between 545 am and 8 am...rainfall amounts of one to two inches will be common with isolated totals of three inches possible.

... The National Weather Service in League City has issued a Flood
Watch for southeast Texas until 7 PM CDT this evening...

Tropical moisture... weak meso-scale boundaries from yesterday's storms
and an upper level disturbance will combine to produce periods of
showers and thunderstorms are expected across southeast Texas today
and this evening. Additional rainfall will generally average between
1 and 2 inches. Pockets of heavier rain in the stronger storms
could produce as much as another 3 to 6 inches of rain.

The heavy rain affecting parts Fort Bend... Harris and Brazoria
counties should end this morning. There should be a brief respite from
the rain later this morning before a second upper level disturbance
and daytime heating initiate new storms by early afternoon.

On Thursday... parts of Austin... Colorado and Wharton counties
received in excess of 6 inches of rain. Parts of Harris Polk...
Washington and Brazos counties received 4 to 6 inches of rain. Any
additional heavy rain today will cause flooding problems.

A Flood Watch for flash flooding means rapidly rising water or
flooding is possible within the watch area. If you are in the watch
area... check preparedness requirements... keep informed... and be ready
for quick action if flash flooding is observed or if a warning is

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to
cross safely. Vehicles caught in rising water should be abandoned
quickly. If your vehicle stalls... abandon it and seek higher ground
immediately. Rapidly rising water may engulf your vehicle and its
occupants and sweep them away. Move to higher ground.

Today in Georgetown, Kentucky: Scattered thunderstorms, highs lower 80s today and upper 80s by Sunday.
