Voice to Text---
.Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that there was a nice flow of thunderbumper activity moving up through Sonora into Arizona last night and early this morning. One of these passed just to the east of Guaymas and it does not look like they saw any rain.
None of these storms encroached into the Sea.
Looking now to the southern Sea. Two rather large thumpers moved into the southern crossing last night. The first started to the east of Mazatlan drifted over Mazatlan and into the Sea. At 5:30 this morning it looked like it was winding down. The heaviest rain was several hours ago.
The other storm started off as several individual storms between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. The built off shore and joined and moved NW toward the cape. At 5:30 this now rather large storm was taking dead aim on the East Cape and Cabo. At 7:30 this storm was still going strong and now SW of the cape. The storm in the Eastern portion of the Southern Crossing was winding down but looked like there was still some rain in the clouds.
Looking further south it looks like the entire coast from Mazatlan south to South America is having thunderbumper activity this morning.
There are a couple of items of interest in our tropical kitchen this morning. The first is a 1004 low that is embedded in the monsoon trough about 109W this morning. There is a lot of convection flairing around that area right now but the National Hurricane Center is saying most likely nothing will develop from this low.
The other item: The models are saying the low we have been looking for the past couple of days is now about 250 miles south of the El Salvador/Guatemala border and will most likely become depressed in the next 24 hours and become tropical storm Dora within the next 48 hours. It’s currently moving westward at around 10 mph. The tracking models show it following the path of Calvin which passed well to the SW of the cape. We’ll see?
That’s it for our hood so looking now north to the west coast of America where it is overcast for most of the west coast this morning.
High pressure has returned following a short visit to the plains states today. It will continue to build over the western conus through tomorrow bringing warmer daytime temperatures and shrinking the marine layer along the coast. This will allow some tropical moisture to edge into southern California today bringing a small chance of isolated showers or a perhaps a thunderbumper.
The high will weaken later in the week making the southern California warm-up short lived. Cooler temperatures are forecast for the later part of the week.
Looking now over to the southwest the returning high brought moisture back however the weather guys in the southwest were not impressed, expecting to see somewhat larger amounts of rainfall.
Many locations only saw one tenth of an inch of storm totals.
Hopefully today they won’t be disappointed. The water vapor imagery is showing Sonoran monsoon moisture starting to move deeper into central and eastern Arizona. This image is also showing a weak weather disturbance moving up from Mexico increasing the threat of afternoon thunderbumpers over central and eastern Arizona today and tomorrow. We’ll see?
Back down here in Baja it looks like another delightful day in Baja. Most of the Sea will see very moderate southerlies with an eastern component in many locations. The winds will be mostly thermally driven.
We should see the temperatures rise a few degrees today and be in the mid to high 90s.
