Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the moisture plume that has provided a good portion of the Sea of Cortez grey skies for three days has dissipated considerably in size and strength overnight. This image is showing the Sea of Cortez mostly clear with only a few whispys here and there. Off in the Pacific it looks like most of the moisture is gone from the plume and any clouds we see from it today will be mostly high whispys.
Looking south to the west coast of Mexico I can see the remnants of the southern extreme of the plume are passing over the Socorro’s this morning. The mainland will see some of these clouds this morning then sunshine there after.
Another late season cold front will be moving off the Texas coast this evening reaching the Bay of Campeche on the eastern side of the Tehuantepec isthmus tomorrow morning. Winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will rapidly increase to GALE force by tomorrow afternoon and could reach STORM force by tomorrow night. This will be another short lived wind-event with the winds diminishing below GALE force by Wednesday afternoon.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where high pressure is keeping the west dry and unseasonably warm.
The Great Northwest is the only location that could see some rain later this week and it should be light showers at best.
In northern California High pressure and well above normal temperatures will continue into Monday, followed by a series of weak troughs that move through northern California throughout the week.
In southern California it will be warm, dry with gusterly off shore winds for most of the week.
Looking now over to the southwest where systems moving through the Great Basin today will continue to provide breezy conditions along with slightly cooler air to the region. Temperatures will be around 90 for most of the week. Late in the week a low approaching from the Pacific could lead to a slight chance of showers across south central Arizona and slightly cooler daytime temperatures.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back in this side of the Fence it will be big-time breezy today and tomorrow for the central and southern Sea, especially the central Sea. A pressure gradient of around 25 millibars between the central Sea and the 4 corners is the culprit.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: 27 today from the NW. Light winds tomorrow from the NW and then around 17 from the SW.
The Guaymas side of the central Sea: 28 today from the NW. 22 tomorrow NW and on Wednesday 19 from the SE.
The Baja side of the central Sea: 24 today NW, 20 tomorrow NW, and around 14 from the SE on Wednesday.
Puerto Escondido: 16-18 today and tomorrow from the NE and around 18 from the SE on Wednesday.
The southern Sea, the San Lorenzo Channel, and the nearby islands.
15 today from the NE, 10 tomorrow NE and then on Wednesday 14 from the SE.
La Paz: 18 today from the NW, 13 tomorrow from the NW and on Wednesday 14 from the SE.
The East Cape: the high teens for the 3-day forecast period. today and tomorrow NW and Wednesday SE.
The Sonoran passage south from Guaymas to Mazatlan mid teens for the first half then high teens to the low 20 from the half way point to Guaymas for the next 3 days.
Mexican Riviera: Mazatlan today 19 from the NW, 16 tomorrow NW and then on Wednesday 21 from the SW.
Puerto Vallarta: the low teens from the NW today and tomorrow and low teens from the SW on Wednesday.
Cabo Corrienties: moderate NW today, light NW tomorrow and the high teens from the SW on Wednesday.
South of Cabo Corrienties mostly light to moderate SW breezes.
