.Looking down into the sea this morning I can see that area of convection along the ITCZ still producing some clouds but mostly whispys this morning. Very little moisture content. I can see a light plume over the top of Puerta Vallarta this morning, but other than that the entire area is pretty much cloud free. Well, there will be some high cirrus, whispys; passing over the central and southern sea as far south as Cabo Corrienties today but all in all it looks like it will be a great solar day.
Looking south to the Tehuantepec it if forecast to be calm for the next 24 hours but the Gulf of Papagayo is forecast to have winds in the 20-25K ranges for the next few days.
Looking over at the west coast of the Baja peninsula I can see a heavy marine layer socking in Turtle Bay and then hugging the coast with thick fog all the way north to Pt Conception on the central California coast.
So looking now up north to the West Coast of America starting at the top of this image. Oregon, especially Washington are having severe flooding problems as the creeks and rivers overflow their banks. Light rain will continue through the weekend then early next week they should have a period of drying out.
Now looking to the south where I have been babbling incoherently for the last couple of days about a possible wind event for this weekend.
Well, today ALL the models are indicating all the right ingredients. That strong upper ridge off the California coast I mentioned earlier. Strong high pressure building in the Great Basin, and that low sitting off the southern California coast moving east into Arizona. The sea will most like see a 6-7 mb gradient for the sea tomorrow.
So here is the good the bad and the ugly.
The good. Today will be delightful.
The bad and the ugly. The Sea of Cortez will see GALE FORCE WINDS in the northern and central sea this weekend. The winds will begin most likely starting tomorrow morning and last all day. High wind gusts in the northern and the central are forecast to be in the 32-36 knot ranges. Sunday the winds will start to diminish and be, perhaps 10 knots less than Saturday. The winds will, of course, be lighter in the southern sea, but it looks like the East Cape will see winds tomorrow in the 18-24 knot ranges. I’m including La Paz in this forecast.
Furthermore 10 ft seas to as far south as the northern crossing are very likely.
As a sidebar: winds are forecast to be in the 60-80 knot ranges through the Cajon pass and the Santa Ana mountains.
All this nasty stuff that is store for us this weekend has one slightly silver lining. We should see temperatures warm up a bit. However, with the wind chill we most likely won’t notice it. And today might be a good time to make sure all those items that might have a tendency to blow off the boat are stored.
I hate to leave my forecast with bad news and I finally found something that made me chuckle on the wire services this morning. (Check at the end of the forecast)
