Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that in general the Sea has been free of any cloudiness for the past 24 hours. There has been areas of local morning fog, but that has burned off by early morning.
Looking now south to the west coast of Mexico where from Cabo Corrienties south there has been considerable thunderbumper activity all along the coast for the past 24 hours. Cosme is a little over 300 miles to the west of Cabo Corrienties and the coast is catching these outward swirls from the storm with light to moderate rain being reported at most of the reporting stations from Puerto Vallarta south.
Cosme is about 375 miles SW of Cabo San Lucas this morning. She is still a tropical storm but is forecast to briefly become a hurricane this afternoon. Her forecast track is to pass to the SW of the cape this afternoon and by tomorrow be out around 112W as a tropical storm again.
One of the benefits of this storm according to the surfer web sites are head and a half waves along the cape and west cape beaches for the next couple of days. That’s around 12 ft for the non-surfing crowd. Satellite imagery is showing a 12 ft seas around the center of the storm and this swell will be propagated northward by strong swells moving up from the south. Most of the models are showing the strong swells arriving on the southern beaches later today and to a lesser extent from Mazatlan to Los Mochas. This latest Satellite image is showing the clouds just to the south of the cape this morning.
Looking out into the Atlantic of Tropical Waves, I can see two this morning. One is entering the Dominican Republic this morning and the other is just to the east of the Lesser Antilles at around 57W.
That’s what is happening in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America where at the top of this image I can see a low swirling just off the coast of Washington. It is forecast to continue moving east today bringing light rain to Washington and Oregon this morning and tapering off this afternoon.
In northern California as far south as Eureka they will see some rain this morning then the north state should start to dry out.
A Major high is forecast to move up from Texas in the Great Basin starting today and then move further west and completely blanket the western conus by tomorrow. The will start the heat wave that will build all week bringing temperatures up to record numbers by the end of the week. The skies will clear and temperatures in the Sacramento Valley will in the low 100s this weekend.
In southern California a shallow marine layer along the coast will moderate the temperatures in the coastal communities but inland will see record highs by the end of the week. Needles California is forecast to hit 123 on Saturday.
Looking now over to the southwest where the temperatures will be cranking up as well under this ridge of high pressure. Tucson will only be around 106 today but this weekend they could see 116. The lower Colorado River Valley will also see temperatures in this range this weekend.
This weekend they could also see some moisture move up from our hood and bring a slight chance of some thunderbumpers in the higher elevations. The desert floor will remain dry.
That’s what is going on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence it looks like moderate southerlies today, strong tomorrow and then moderate northerlies on Thursday.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: light to moderate east of SE today, high teens tomorrow and then moderate ENE on Thursday.
The Central Sea: moderate southerlies today, strong tomorrow and then moderate ENE on Thursday.
The southern Sea: the San Lorenzo channel and the local islands mostly light daytime southerlies. Cormwells around 12-15 this evening. The La Paz area today: 20 knots, 15 tomorrow and then 8 on Thursday.
The East Cape: all from the SE. Around 23 knots today, 17 tomorrow and then around 11 on Thursday.
The Mexican Riviera: Cabo Corrienties to Manzanillo will see 18-23 today but the rest ballpark low teens over the 3-day forecast period including Cabo Corrienties and Manzanillo.
