Looking down into the Sea this morning I can see that the Sea of Cortez is clear of any clouds this morning. Looking off to the west I can see that a thick fog bank is hugging the west coast of the Baja peninsula from the Laguna area south of Turtle Bay north all the way north to the Bay Area in northern California this morning.
Looking south I can see a light plume of whispys passing over the Riviera from around Manzanillo south this morning.
Looking out into the Eastern Pacific basin and the ITCZ/Monsoon trough I can see there is moderate convection along the zone this morning with numerous small thunderbumpers working mostly from around 120 east this morning.
That’s what is going on in our hood. Looking now north to the west coast of America of America where a cold front has moved out of the Gulf of Alaska and is now moving down the British Columbia coast bringing heavy rain to the Great Northwest. This is the first of a couple of systems that will be keeping the umbrellas up in the Great Northwest all week.
To the south high pressure is moving in from the Pacific and will continue to build over California through tomorrow. This will warm up the state over the weekend then on Monday a low is forecast to be near the west coast and this will bring gusterly conditions and a cooling trend to the mountains and deserts for the rest of next week.
Looking now over to the southwest where a low meandering over eastern Sonora will be the genesis for a chance of afternoon and evening thunderbumpers today. Beyond today the low will have less influence allowing the southwest of become dryer and warmer with only a few isolated thunderbumpers in the eastern mountain into mid week.
Mostly sunny skies all week and temperatures reaching the triple digit mark will occur later in the week.
That’s what is gong on to the north of us. Back on this side of the Fence the Sonoran coast will see 20+ know winds from Bahia Keno Nuevo south to almost Mazatlan today. Tomorrow the strong winds will continue along the Sonoran coast as well as most of the northern Sea, but it does not look like they will reach as far south as the northern crossing.
Here are the wind details for the 3-day forecast period.
The northern Sea: NW winds today15-19 today, high 20s tomorrow from the NW and then on Monday the SW winds will be back in the low teens.
The central Sea: Sonoran side: strong NW winds today and tomorrow and then strong to moderate SW winds on Monday.
The Baja side of the central Sea: moderate NW winds today and tomorrow then swinging to the SE on Monday still in the moderate ranges.
The southern Sea: The san Lorenzo Channel, La Paz and the nearby islands light to moderate winds from the NE today then ESE on Sunday and Monday.
The Sonoran passage: Mazatlan to around Los Mochas moderate WNW winds today and tomorrow then moderate SW on Monday. North of los Mochas to Guaymas around 20 today from the NW, a bit less tomorrow and then on Monday light to moderate WSW.
The Mexican Riviera: light to moderate winds for the 3-day forecast period. North of Cabo Corrienties from the NW and south of Cabo Corrienties from the SW.
As far as temperatures, so far been a rather cool May. Here in the cove the average Temperature for May is 94 degrees. So far this month we have averaged 86. The water Temperature is normally around 80 by mid month. This morning the Temperature in the pool was only 73 degrees. So it looks like the later part of the month will be quite warm if we are going to be an average May. We’ll see?

73s Y’all
