Calm, slight overcast, 18C temp. Yesterday a very hot day at 33C, and no afternoon breeze to move some air over the water onto shore. Certainly a temperature level we are not used to, hard to imagine what sevral days of the temp would be lie. The folks just south of us have endured heatwave conditions past few days.
A huge turnout at public meeting last, one estimate of 700 in attendance, our entire population approx. 2500. A complete cross section of the community represented. a good thing. Strong support for the young men that have been arrested. The RCMP were advised that other communities in the area are as volatile about the drug issue as Grand Manan, and could resort to same tactics to rid neighbourhoods of drug houses. Remains to be seen if any solutions will come of the events, but certainly has focussed the community on the problem. Sevral members of the community were eloquent, personal and helpful in thier comments. The local detachment commander was overcome at one point when discussing the children in the community, he has two youngsters himself, he and the members are working hard to clean the mess up. Requires more flexibility in the 'system', and participation of community members to supply information, and be prepared to follow the information with court testimony if nessecary - a large commitment for sure.
Off to family gathering in the AM, and weather looking good for the two days.
