THURSDAY, APRIL 5/12

By: GRANDMANAN , 10:48 AM GMT on April 05, 2012

A cool prelude to Easter Long Weekend, mostly overcast, temp just over the freezing makr, being pushed around with a westerly breeze 10-15KPH. Showers appear to be removed from the forecast with a gradual warming trend over the weekend.

Not much activity in the harbour this morning, brant and sea ducks must have moved off early to wherever they spend the day.

Traps going by a few at a time, price remains good, level of catch not too bad for the time of year. NO other fishery in commence at the moment. Our lone seiner in Yarmouth having work done on the seine, then on the slip prior to the herring season later on this spring.

Afternoon David, our weather remains like yours, unpredictable, this morning seemed to following the forecast, appears to be doing the same at the moment, but very clear conditions.

Tony fishes with his son, they have been busy the week getting things in the water, haven't had a report on the catch. Price remains in the $6/lb range, even with the catch improving, best take advantage while you can. Like you most of the guys return the 'bycatch' rather than use it for fresh bait, a recent turn, but an acknowledgement the resource is finite.

Long weekend, if the weather co-operates hope to at least get my wood in the yard, have stowed a couple of tier, but lots of room left to fill. Don't get at it as quick as a few years ago, however still a good opportunity to contemplate the goings on and speak with yourself with no interruptions - nothing like a little physical labour to be left alone.

Good fishing.
