Overcast, calm, 11C, moisture not too far away. A rainy weekend in the offing, forecast to carry on into the first of the next week.

Mom still holding her own, appeared to be positive yesterday, by later afternoon heart rate and blood pressure had begun to drop back.

Emily babysitting today, Rob off to St. John for a gig this this evening in one of the churches. He and his small band are playing for the congregation tomorrow while the main group return on the first boat in the morning. Rob wired for the opportunity to play in public.

The ladies returned from a successful sleepover. I would say they did well both in cross border trade and garden centre purchases. A bonous returning home was the opportunity to visit with her friends niece.

FRIDAY, MAY 30/2008

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:28 AM GMT on May 30, 2008

Clear, calm, a nice 11C, to be clear and rise to high teens before the day is done. Showers/rain for tomorrow, and looks like clearing on Sunday.

Mom still holding her own, she is not out of danger as yet, heart rate still low on occasion. Dr. surprised she survived the first night, fully concious and aware of what has transpired.

Donna and buddy having a good time on the mainland, cross border shopping appears to have been the order of the day yesterday. Today the garden centre sweep towards the boat begins, another good weather day to browse outside.

New Village Council sworn in last evening, a mix of the old and the new. Five new members with one of them having previously served. The new Administration begins today.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:28 AM GMT on May 29, 2008

Clear, cool @5C, a very slight draft from SSW, gives the impression moisture could be in the area later on today. Looking poor for the weekend with lots of rain coming our way.

Mom flown out yesterday, found her in hard shape from an apparent heart attack. Pulse real low, report in this morning heart rate near normal, no report on blood pressure. The medical personnel she was involved with here above professional a caring bunch at all times.

Donna and her buddy underway, she was reluctant to go, but can't see what she can do in the current situation if she hangs around. A good day to travel, weather ideal for a look around on the mainland, can be recalled if she is needed at home.

Rob travelling this weekend for a gig in St. John, the church they are going to is covering all expenses so all hands are excited to participate.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:45 AM GMT on May 28, 2008

Clear, NW breeze around 20KPH, nice temp at 11C to rise into high teens. Still nice looking weather for the rest of the week.

Girls will have good travelling weather for the next couple of days. A sleepover at brother on the border will allow plenty of time for them to do a bit of cross border shopping. A possible side trip to Kingsbrae on the backhaul is in the planning stage, weather/time permitting.

Robs first ballgame a win if they got enough innings in before it had to be called because of rain. The kids were having a grand time playing in the rain trying to have the game count.

School year winding down with another three weeks to go. Still busy trying to get things in that the storms days backed up over the winter.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:39 AM GMT on May 27, 2008

Overcast, calm, 12C, a definate hint of moisture with a slight draft from south bringing haze as the morning moves along. Nice weather in the offing for the rest of the week.

Rob has a ballgame for this evening, would say doubtful at this moment if it will get done. However stranger things have happened.

Complex construction underway, with one part of the existing premises to be removed within next few days. The club will be moving to Curling Rink within the next few days to await the new digs being completed.

The boat still running behind, don't have an idea if the problem with the bow visor has been addressed as yet.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:38 AM GMT on May 26, 2008

Another great sunrise, a slight draft from SW, clear with a hint of haze as the morning moves along, 12C a high in the high teens in the forecast. Overall looking good for the week with a hint of moisture tomorrow.

Lots of yardwork completed yesterday, with the assistance of the mower pilot the front lawn now completed for first time this year. Must say looks great, grounds still saturated in most places, but not enough to slow up the mowing. Donna had most of the flower gardens cleaned up, time to mulch now.

Lobster price still at $5/lb, not a great abundance being caught. Season closes 29 JUN till fall fishing, a longtime with not much else going on to fill in the time. Price of fuel in $1.16/litre range, a year ago approx. half the current price.

By: GRANDMANAN, 11:12 AM GMT on May 25, 2008

Gorgeous weather morning, absolute calm, 12C, bright sunshine. This for the next couple of days then the moisture is forcast, but now getting into possible showers, a slight change.

The yardwork in full swing, flower gardens getting cleaned up, ready for new tenants very shortly. Lawn mowed and cleaned up for the first time. A great thing when your power equipment is finally in commence, makes life much easiar. Still have a bit of wood to split and stow, but can get that done in an evening - procrastination avoided.

Gas in Calais over $4/US Gallon, $1.07/litre, locally this weeks price $1.31/litre. Can expect further up in the rates as the price per barrel contiunes to spiral upward. Also one now thinks to assure yourself that a trip in the vehicle is required, or can it wait to combine it with another.

Emily out overnight, Rob getting into the baseball season, first game Tuesday evening.

By: GRANDMANAN, 11:24 AM GMT on May 24, 2008

A nice sunrise, but now becoming overcast, calm, starting to warm up a little at 10C. Giving moisture for the afternoon, same type of weather for the first of the week.

Conference at St. Andrews by the Sea well worth attending, delegates from all over the province in attendance.

Return home delayed as the bow on the ferry having hydraulic problems. A pump give it up, not quite a match for the system, recently repaired installed at refit. Have to load and off load through the stern, takes quite a bit of time, until repairs completed will only be three trips a day.

Did manage to get a load of mulch, and a shrub with a start on the bedding plants. Donna and her friend will decide when they are going in the next couple of days. Weathe stil consipiring against them, however the lawn apparently likes it alot.

By: GRANDMANAN, 9:23 AM GMT on May 21, 2008

Overcast, calm, 7C, a hint of drizzle off and on. Rain in the forecast for the rest of the week, a possibilty of clearing for the weekend.

Garden trip on for next week, now looking like a sleepover for the girls. Better to insure they can canvas the centres in Charlotte County, then support the local centre to insure she is open in the future.

Kids off to school today, the short haul to the school year end now underway. A matter of a few weeks. Emily is getting more chances to baby sit, don't know if she has a regular summer position or not - has been discussed.

Off to a conference for rest of the week in St. Andrews, should be interesting, Nunicipal Administrators provnce wide attendig.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:23 AM GMT on May 20, 2008

Clear, brisk southerly 20KPH, a cool 6C. Giving some cloudy periods with rain starting tomorrow for the remainder of the week.

No school for the kids today, both out overnight. Rob sleeping at camp, Emily at a buddies. Still haven't got the full lowdown on her trip, other than it was 'alright'.

Donna and her buddy looking for good weather to do thier garden centre thing. Dosen't look promosing for this week. The combination of rain and temps would not allow them to get the plants in the ground for awhile yet.

Construction on the complex getting underway, with the ground preparation in full swing. The existing structure, that has worked for the past thirty years to be removed within a couple of weeks. The size of the building now getting a little better to comprehend.

By: GRANDMANAN, 11:17 AM GMT on May 19, 2008

Overcast, drizzle, fog, 7C, a slight breeze from SSE. The weather for the remainder of the week damp, and cool. Not much sun anytime for the week.

Two brothers still in residence, leaving on the 1130 this morning. The neices, nephews and families vacated the premises last boat yesterday. A very successful weekend lots of food and fellowship. Mom had her cake and gathering yesterday also a chance to eat too much, mom enjoyed the visitors and the gang for another day.

Emily arrived home last night tired, but excited to be in her own digs once again. Still have not had the run down of what worked best for her. Probably later on today will be a better chance to catch up.

By: GRANDMANAN, 12:16 AM GMT on May 19, 2008

A sprinkle of rain this morning, with clearing as the day moved along. Temp loq double digits, but with the dampness in the air remained chilly throughout the day.

The cook off a huge success, with all the diners calling for a rematch. Donna took the points with her lobster chowder, disappeared before the roast and ribs even showed up on the table. Great having the family from the mainland here for the two days. Mom had a grand time, and hungit down much longer than I expected.

To get together again in mid July, a niece from the west coast be in the neighbourhood at that time. Lots of planning going into the food for this hasn't taken on the challenge mode yet, but may well be the case.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:53 AM GMT on May 16, 2008

Clear, calm, 8C, a few clouds to rise into the mid teens again today. Has been a good strectch of weather, no so for the long weekend.

Family gathering on the weekend for moms celebration, going to be rained on by current accounts. A couple of dozen in close quarters, of all ages up to 90 yrs could test family ties. Always have the shed to fall back on, must set up the BBQ there because of the elements of course.

No word from the traveller last night, they were off to the National Arts Centre to take in a performance of the nations orchestra, music most them have not been exposed to before.

Have a dozen lobster all shucked out for chowder building, lots of meat in them. Fresh from the water yesterday, good friend held thel for us now ready to go. Also have a salmon later today, going on the BBQ on cedar plank, just part of the menu.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:40 AM GMT on May 15, 2008

Clear, breeze has let up, slight draft from north just enough to gently move the flag. Temp 7C again to rise into the mid teens. Forecast slowly changing to the positive for the weekend. Now from rain to possible showers.

Emily called collect last evening, quite a trip. Found the bus ride to the nations capital boring. Can't imagine that, probably to busy visiting to look out the window. They were at the Parliament Buildings yesterday, found that impressive. She spoke with her nan and mother, Rob and I not a requirement.

Rob and his group have a gig in St. John end of the month playing at a church in West St.John, all hands excited. Rob has let his academic commitment slide, his trip hanging until this brought up to standard.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:49 AM GMT on May 14, 2008

Clear, breeze from the north let up some, remains 10-15KPH, temp a nice 8C expected to rise into mid teens once again. Weather detoriating for the weekend.

Election results seems to be well accepted for the most part, with five new faces taking a seat. A combination of old and new should be a good mix.

Slowly getting some of the gardens cleaned up, dosen't seem to be enough daylight hours to get things accomplished that need attention. Rob has taken the lawn mowing duties, especially the riding part so have been able to keep up with that so far.

No cell phones with the kids to Ottawa, so will wait and see if any computer entries on the school site will give an update.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:24 AM GMT on May 13, 2008

Partial overcast, still a steady breeze from north 15KPH, not much gusting. Temp 7C seems much colder, temp to rise to mid teens once again. Week weather forcast more of the same.

Election Day high turnout for Municipal over 66% resulted in some change at the Council level, mayor returned by healthy majority. New approaches combined with the old harkens well for the community over next four years.

Emily delivered to the boat, seemed somewhat reluctant to leave her grandmother while at home here. Once we got to the terminal, her peer group all gathered, giggling Donna barely recieved a cursory hug. I embarassed her by insuring she be a good girl and calling her sweetie, a nice roll of the eyes and a whatever comment.

Family gathering on weekend for moms 90th planning underway. The menu becoming like a Ukranian Wedding lots and diverse, probably will have to go on for a couple of days - weather permitting.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:32 AM GMT on May 12, 2008

Clear, still a breeze from the north 15-20KPH, 6C temp to rise into mid teens today. This type of weather is the forecast for the rest of the week, be great if the breeze drops back and leave the rest in place.

Emily off in the morning, giving 30KPH NE, not the best to get the first leg over. Can't imagine that it will put much of damper on the excursion, 35 kids from grade eight, quite an undertaking.

Mothers Day Dinner a success, as always, the mothers ate then moved along pretty quick. Thier backs were the problem, but more than likly a nap was in order. That required being home in thier respective nests.

Lobster catch backed off some last week, a combination of full tides, freshette, and a bit of wind on one day conspired. The price still around the $5/lb mark, unlikly to move up possibly for the remainder of the season.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:59 AM GMT on May 11, 2008

Partial overcast, 7C forecast to rise into low teens, strong breeze from north 15-20KPH with higher gusts. Looking better for the week ahead, with moisture removed till end of the week.

Emily babysit both nights of the weekend, Rob had a friend and reciprocated last night. Have not heard of him since yesterday in the morning. They went to the range yesterday, Rob did well for his first exposure to firearms. Probably will be added to this list of tings to get involved with.

Mother Day dinner lots of mothers, but Donna gets most of the preparation. Weather too intense to get any cooking done outdoors as a result she gets the whole thing inside.

Emily off on her trip on Tues. she is now entering the frantic mode to insure all is prepared. Little fear with nan on the case.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:56 AM GMT on May 10, 2008

Weather a far cry from yesterday, a mere 5C, overcast, strong NE 20-25KPH, appears to be increasing as the morning moves along. This is the template weather wise for the next few days.

Harbour almost feather white, have not seen that for sevral weeks. Not much yardwork to get caught up on, but should finish stowing the wood. Fire started this morning, will no doubt be on for the the next few days.

Sod turning went very well, great weather, large turnout, Rotary had the canteen in place. Nothing like free food to bring a few more people along. Denis POTVIN obviously a communicator, great having him say a few words. The level of excitement much enhanced for the successful completion of the project.

Monday Municipal Election Day, large number have cast thier ballots in the Advance Poll.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:36 AM GMT on May 09, 2008

Clear, slight draft from west with a hint of northerly lin it. Temp 9C, clear for the day with wind and rain for the Mothers Day Weekend.

Beautiful daly for the sod turning, will see what the crowd looks like, sod turning not quite the same enthusiasm as the grand opening. Free hotdogs and pop might work a little to expand the crowd.

Brother was going to make it for the weekend, but weather might dictate they stay on the other shore for another time. Near gale force both Sat & Sun not good traveling weather, for mainlanders and small boat.

Emily and her group getting excited about the upcoming class trip to Ottawa, similar to a Christmas anticipation experiance.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:48 AM GMT on May 08, 2008

Overcast, a few drops down, a slight draft from the south, a pleasant 9C. Looking for showers as the day moves along, radar indicates lots of moisture inland.

Yard work in commence, finally have the lawn limed, most of it once over with the mower. The trellis for the clematis even in place. Clematis early this year, quite far along will be climbing next few days.

The leaves starting to make an appearacne, especially on the willows. The hachmatak needles showing thier colour, things coming alive rapidly with the mild turn of the weather.

Looking for nice weather tomorrow for the sod turning, a photo op with Dennis POTVIN certainly can;t hurt the project.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:46 AM GMT on May 07, 2008

Clear with a hint of overcast, a pleasant 11C, total calm, dead tides, looking out the window the flood tide into the harbour visually moving similar to the flow of a river. Nice temps and weather today, moisture in the offing next couple of days.

The St. John River going down, have not heard if the falls are now reversing or not. Signifigant damage in some communities along the river.

Smolt have been arriving daily, some work at the Ingalls Head wharf going on. Road restrictions will be off in the next week or so then Seal Cove construction should be underway.

Baseball season got underway with the first practise for Robs group last night. He was more than ready to go, the regular catcher broke his arm at school, Rob moved in, seems to enjoy the position.

MAY 6/08

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:49 AM GMT on May 06, 2008

Clear, absolute calm, 10C forecast to be in the upper teens before the day is out. Harbour millpond reflection this morning, one of those full tides appears as if one could walk to Ross Island.

Flood waters receding on the St. John River, however the volume is so great the Reversing Falls at the mouth of the river are not reversing. The volume of water entering the Bay holds the tide from flowing into the river. I suppose it has occurred in the past, but have not beew aware of it.

A few taking advantage of the low tides with clammers out on the bar. Should be an opportunity for the dulsers to get some of the picked dulse dried and to market.

Sod turning on Friday for the new complex. Denis POTVIN, NHL HALL OF FAMER to be present along with various government types. Great to get it underway.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:53 AM GMT on May 05, 2008

Drizzle, fog, beginning to clear as the morning moves along, 6C temp to rise low double digits. A pretty nice week temp and sun wise in the forecast.

Managed to get the lawn dethatched, now needs to be mowed with the bagger on. A few dahlias have made there way into the ground, will be awhile before can get the bulk in as the lower part of the property still pretty damp.

Municipal Election next Monday, advance poll open on Sat and today. The Sat. poll seemed to have a few customers as they drove by. Afraid one poll for the island may have a negative influence in the overall turnout next week. Electronic voting for the first time in any election.

Donna in residence, washing machine going, beds being changed, kids off to school, routine has returned.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:50 AM GMT on May 04, 2008

A perfect sunrise now overcast, with a few drops down, not to amount to much. Total calm, 6C, partial overcast. Temp to rise low double digits, damp for the next few days.

Donna has a good day to travel home, not a ripple on the water, no birds in evidence in the harbour, must be getting ready for church.

Both kids home last night, Emily babysitting till late, so expect will be awhile before she shows up.

Some of the initial yard work completed yesterday, have the dahlia bulbs out, will attempt to get some in the ground this morning.

By: GRANDMANAN, 11:18 AM GMT on May 03, 2008

Overcast, clearing with a slight draft from north, a nice 7C with double digit temps in the forecast for the weekend.

Emily out overnight again, have not seen her since Thursday. Will be home this afternoon as a babysitting job has come her way.

Donna returning tomorrow extensive flooding in Fredericton, fortunatly the shopping malls are on high ground. She has been able to have a look around with no problem.

A weekend to get at the yard, suprisingly dry with all the snow and recent rain we have had. The brooks appear to be running at a rate one would expect in June. Some tilling and a few potatoes in the ground.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:38 AM GMT on May 02, 2008

Clear, enough air movement from the west to barely move the flag, 3C looking for double digits today, into the teens for the weekend.

Grass definatly getting green, not enough leaf activity to give the hills a green hue as yet, won't be long. This keeps up will consider getting some of the dahlias in the higher ground for a good start, rather than another month.

Complex still major conversation, contractor will be here in a couple of weeks to stake the ground, and have it for the ground prepartion. Boys & Girls Club beginning to shut down fitness centre with equipment moving this weekend, that end of the building ready for demolition next week I would think.

Lobster starting to pick up, but not the price, price moving upward doubtful as more areas open. Lots of activity in the wier sector getting ready, stakes being sharpened, don't know if any stakes have been driven or not.

Emily out overnight, will wait and see if she returns today or tries to string it out for at least another night.

By: GRANDMANAN, 10:46 AM GMT on May 01, 2008

Clear, a slight breeze from NW, just enough to move the flag. Weather looking good for the next few days, lots of flooding reported along the St. John River, to get worse before it gets better.

Brant on guard again this morning, along with a few sea ducks. Geese must be nesting see only the occasional single in the air. A few bald eagles doing thier thing around the shore.

Community pleased that the complex going ahead, for our purposes within budget. The price of steel going up this week, a mere 18%, if we were unable to move now this would have added nearly a $100K to the bottom line, quickly getting out of financial reach.

Donna enjoying her sojourn to the mainland, expecting to stay for the weekend before returning. Emily off on her trip to Ottawa on 11th, so she will have last minute details to get her ready for her first extended trip to the nations capital.
