Yet another dry month in 2013. The January-March total of 1.65" is the least amount ever recorded to begin a calendar year, and is only 11.5% of the Normal of 14.29" for this 3-month period. After a decent start to the rainy season in late 2012, the Water-Year total is up to 13.33" but is still only 56.5% of the Normal of 23.59" for the period July 1, 2012-March 31, 2013. The bulk of the precipitation occurred at the beginning and again at the end of the month, resulting in 93.2% of the total.
With the lack of rain, skies were unusually clear, resulting in mild daytime temperatures and cooler minimum temperatures (until the last few days of the month). The diurnal average was 21.2°, higher than a normal March. The greatest diurnal range of 33.5° occurred on the 12th, the least diurnal range was 9.8° on the 6th.
The wind was dominant from the west even more than usual. All but 4 days saw peak wind gusts of 10 MPH or higher, topping out at 30 MPH on the 6th as a storm system moved through the area.
Heavy Fog occurred on 4 days, scattered throughout the month.
