Weather Situation
A cold front is expected to approach the west coast during the early hours of Friday morning and move across the South West Land Division during the course of the day. During Friday afternoon a secondary cold front will move across the southwest of the state.

The first front is likely to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. DAMAGING WINDS are likely to develop near the Southwest Capes around midnight, reaching remaining parts of the west coast from Kalbarri to Walpole by about 4am, and extending inland to remaining areas during Friday morning.

The first front is also likely to cause HEAVY RAINFALL that may lead to FLASH FLOODING in the Lower West and South West forecast districts early Friday morning.

The passage of the secondary front is also likely to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY southwest of a line Jurien Bay to Bremer Bay on Friday afternoon. DAMAGING WINDS will extend to southwest of a line Dongara to Paynes Find to Israelite Bay by the evening. This system is likely to produce higher sustained winds and more frequent squalls than the first front.

Large swells will accompany the secondary front leading to DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS which could cause significant beach erosion along the west coast south of Kalbarri.

People in the south of WA experience a system as windy as this about 5 times per year.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
