Kari Kiefer
Meteorologist
A native Midwesterner, Kari Kiefer has traded in her snowy winters for the sunny skies of California. Born and raised in Minnesota, Kari studied Atmospheric Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she earned her B.S. in 2007. Kari continued her education at San Jose State University and earned her Masters in Science in Meteorology and Climate Science in 2010. During her master program she worked as a meteorologist in charge of analyzing and comparing fuel efficiency between routes at Applied Weather Technologies, Inc, a ship routing company. After graduating, Kari joined the Weather Underground team as a meteorologist where among her many tasks she writes weather summaries for the Associated Press, both globally and nationally. She is also a co-host of WunderTravel, a radio show on the Weather Underground Broadcast network and can be found on Twitter as WunderKari. Kari's area of expertise is fire weather research and she wrote her masters thesis on smoke plume dynamics and its environmental effects.
Kari loves the outdoors and on any given weekend can be found hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowboarding, or just hanging out on Lake Minnetonka during summer vacations back home in Minnesota.
