Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 4:25 AM MDT Apr. 27, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning in effect until midnight MDT Friday
night...

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has upgraded the Winter
Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and
blowing snow, which is in effect until midnight MDT Friday night.

* Timing... moderate snow will continue through the afternoon, with
a break in activity expected early this evening. Moderate to
heavy snow will then return by midnight tonight and will
continue periodically through Friday evening.

* Total snow accumulations... 9 to 16 inches, with locally higher
amounts under any thunderstorms that develop this afternoon.

* Winds/visibility... southwest 10 to 20 mph this morning, becoming
west 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph this afternoon.
Visibility may be reduced to one half mile or less at times in
snow and blowing snow.

* Impacts... hazardous travel likely due to snow covered roads and
low visibility. Those planning outdoor recreation in the
mountains should be prepared for heavy snow conditions and low
visibility at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
