Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 5:41 AM EDT Apr. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia,
including the following areas, in southwest Virginia, Buchanan
and Dickenson. In southern West Virginia, McDowell and
Wyoming.

* Through this evening

* another wave of heavy rainfall is expected today. This could
lead to flash flooding, particularly along flood prone creeks
and streams, and adjacent low lying areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should warnings be issued.

Special Statement
Issued: 1:06 PM EDT Apr. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Localized minor flooding possible...

Persistent light to moderate rain is currently falling over southern
West Virginia. This, in combination with the amounts from the last
24 hours, could cause streams and creeks to push their bankfull
limits. Low lying roads near creeks and streams may experience
standing water, as well as from roadside ditches and culverts. This
rain is expected to cause mainly travel difficulties with isolated
Road closures.
