Record highs are possible for parts of the Northeast Monday and Tuesday, as parts of the central U.S. take a little breather from the worst of summer's dog day heat.

Expansive high pressure in the upper atmosphere will focus on parts of the East and West this week, sending heat indices well into the triple digits from the Mid-Atlantic states into the South.

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 9:45 PM EDT Jul. 25, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* small stream Flood Advisory for...
southwestern Grayson County in southwestern Virginia...
south central Smyth County in southwestern Virginia...

* until 1145 PM EDT

* at 943 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding in the
advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Whitetop...
Mount ROgers Summit...
Grayson Highlands State Park...
Thomas bridge...
and Rugby.

Total rainfall could reach two inches over the area. This
rainfall will result in minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
