... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST this morning...
* winds... west 10 to 20 mph with gusts between 30 to 50 mph.
* Timing... strongest winds through 7am. Winds should begin to
subside by late morning.
* Impacts... downed trees and powerlines heavily weighed down and
glazed by ice. Potential for power outages. Risk is greatest
above 2000 feet elevation.
* Locations... the Blue Ridge, the foothills of Virginia and North
Carolina, the New River, Roanoke and southern Shenandoah
valleys, and into southeast West Virginia.
* Hazards... strong winds.
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use extra
caution until the winds subside.
