Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:48 PM CDT Apr. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory in effect until 7 am CDT Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
coastal flood advisory, which is in effect until 7 am CDT Sunday.

* Coastal flooding... observed water levels may reach 3.0 to 3.6
feet with additional higher wave run up due to high surf.

* Timing... through around 7 PM then should gradually lower with the arrival
of low tide. A brief increase may occur as the cold front arrives and northerly
winds push tide levels up on the northern shores of Galveston Island and Bolivar
Peninsula Sunday morning between 3 am and 7 am.

* Impacts... water levels may overcome dunes and possibly
overwash low-lying areas and roadways along Bolivar Peninsula,
the west end of Galveston Island, the Blue Water Highway, and
beach drive near Surfside. Wave run up will make camping and
driving on the beach hazardous. Rip currents will be strong.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
