Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory
Issued: 2:30 AM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory in effect for the South Washington and north
Oregon coasts until 7 PM PST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a high surf
advisory... which is in effect from 4 am to 7 PM PST Saturday.

* Seas... seas 20 to 23 feet. Dominant period around 18 seconds.

* Impacts... avoid walking on jetties... rocks... coastal
cliffs... and along the Waters Edge. Waves may rise unexpectedly
and sweep you into the turbulent and frigid waters.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

Small Craft for Hazardous Seas Advisory, Small Craft for Winds Advisory
Issued: 2:30 AM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas now in effect until
4 am PST Saturday...
... Small Craft Advisory for winds remains in effect until noon
PST today...

* winds... south winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt this
morning... subsiding below 20 knots by later this afternoon.

* Seas... 14 to 16 ft.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory for wind means that wind speeds of 21 to
33 knots are expected. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas means that waves are
expected to be hazardous to small craft. Mariners should avoid
shoaling areas. Long period swell can sharpen into large breaking
waves in shoaling areas. It is not unusual for waves to break
much farther from shoaling areas than is normally experienced.
Remember... breaking waves can easily capsize even larger vessels.
