... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect from 1 PM this afternoon
to 1 PM EST Tuesday...

* locations... the eastern Catskills... Mid Hudson valley...
Schoharie valley... Mohawk Valley... helderbergs... capital
region... Taconics... Berkshires... and Litchfield County
Connecticut.

* Hazard types... snow and sleet.

* Accumulations... snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 5 inches for
valley areas and 4 to 8 inches across the higher elevations.

* Timing... a mixture of rain, snow and sleet will spread across
the region late this afternoon into this evening from south to
north. Precipitation will primarily become snow and sleet for
the overnight hours and will be moderate to locally heavy at
times. Precipitation will taper off on Tuesday morning.

* Impacts... snow and slush covered roads and low visibility will make
for hazardous travel. Sidewalks, driveways and parking lots
will be very slippery. The combination of gusty winds and wet
snowfall may lead to some localized power outages as well.

* Winds... northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Locally
higher gusts to 50 mph possible over the Taconics and western
New England.

* Temperatures... in the lower to middle 30s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

... Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 am EST Tuesday...

* winds and seas... northeast winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to
50 kt. Seas 6 to 9 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Storm Warning means sustained winds or frequent gusts of 48 to
63 kt are expected or occurring. Recreational boaters should
remain in port... or take shelter until winds and waves subside.
Commercial vessels should prepare for very strong winds and
dangerous sea conditions... and consider remaining in port or
taking shelter in port until winds and waves subside.
