Winter Storm Watch
Issued: 8:40 PM EST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon
through Tuesday afternoon...

* locations... central New York and the northern tier of
Pennsylvania.

* Hazard types... heavy wet snow... sleet... and strong winds.

* Accumulations... potential for 6 to 12 inches of heavy wet
snow... and sleet with locally higher amounts possible. The
heaviest accumulations will be over the higher terrain with
lower amounts in the valleys.

* Timing... rain will move into the area early Monday and become a
wintry mix of rain... snow... and sleet periodically throughout
the day as colder air moves into the region. Light freezing rain
may be possible but is not the main threat. By early Monday
evening... most of the region will transition to a wintry mix of
snow and sleet. The combination of snow and sleet... which may be
heavy at times... will continue through Tuesday afternoon.

* Impacts... heavy wet snow and sleet will make many roads
treacherous and travel very dangerous. The storm will be
accompanied by strong winds which will potentially lead to
power outages.

* Winds... northeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph.

* Temperatures... in the low to mid 30s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for heavy snow...
sleet... or ice accumulations that would impact travel. Continue
to monitor the latest forecasts.

* winds... northeast 15 to 20 knots.

* Waves... 3 to 6 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 18 to 33 knots
and/or waves averaging 4 feet or more are expected to produce
hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced
mariners... especially those operating smaller vessels... should
avoid navigating in these conditions.
