Issued: 9:30 AM EST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 PM this
afternoon to 10 am EST Tuesday...

* locations... Monroe... Genesee... Wyoming... and Cattaraugus
counties.

* Timing... rain that will arrive during the midday and early
afternoon will change to snow late this afternoon or evening
and continue through late Tuesday morning.

* Hazards... snow... possibly mixed with sleet this evening.

* Accumulations... 3 to 5 inches tonight and around an inch
Tuesday... leading to storm totals of 3 to 6 inches.

* Winds... northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Visibilities... as low as a half mile at times.

* Impacts... wet snow will result in slushy and slick travel
conditions. The worst travel conditions are expected Monday
night into Tuesday morning... which will make for a slippery
Tuesday morning commute.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory is normally issued for a variety of
winter weather conditions such as light snow... blowing snow...
sleet... freezing rain and wind chills. While the weather will be
significant... the word advisory implies that severe winter
weather is not anticipated.

* winds... northeast 20 to 25 knots.

* Waves... 3 to 6 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 18 to 33 knots
and/or waves averaging 4 feet or more are expected to produce
hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced
mariners... especially those operating smaller vessels... should
avoid navigating in these conditions.
