... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight EDT
tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of North Carolina and Virginia, including the
following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe,
Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and
Yadkin. In Virginia, Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Henry, Patrick,
Smyth, Tazewell, and Wythe.

* Until midnight EDT tonight

* showers and thunderstorms could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain
or locally more in a short period of time this afternoon and
evening. High rainfall rates combined with wet soil conditions
could lead to flash flooding of creeks and streams.

* Flooding of streams and creeks can lead to impassable roads.
Mudslides are possible which would also impact travel.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember... turn around... don't drown!

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* flood advisory for...
southwestern Alleghany County in northwestern North Carolina...
western Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina...
southeastern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina...
southeastern Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina...

* until 645 PM EDT

* at 346 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms moving north at 45 mph. The storms are lining up in
a training fashion, so this will cause minor flooding in the
advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Jefferson...
West Jefferson...
Blowing Rock...
Laurel Springs...
and Glendale Springs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports and
