High Surf Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST Monday...
... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 1 am to 7 PM EST
Monday...

* locations... Ocracoke.

* Surf height... 6 to 8 feet.

* Timing... tonight into Monday.

* Tidal departure... inundation 1 to 2 feet above ground (2 to 3
feet above normal).

* Coastal flood impacts... minor flooding is expected in the most
vulnerable locations near the Waterfront resulting in a low
threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property
including parking lots, Parks, lawns, and homes near the
Waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

* Shoreline impacts... rough surf and minor beach erosion.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area, producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.






High Wind Warning
Issued: 3:01 PM EST Dec. 9, 2018 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning now in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am
EST Monday...

* winds... northeast 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing... tonight.

* Impacts... damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
