Public Information Statement
Issued: 8:28 PM EST Jan. 16, 2017 – National Weather Service

... WFO Newport/Morehead City NC Doppler weather radar has returned
to operation...

The National Weather Service Doppler radar at Newport/Morehead
City is back in service. There are still some calibration issues
that may require additional maintenance time on Tuesday. Enhanced
clutter near the radar and issues with velocity products may be
noticed until the full calibration is complete.

The radar has been out of service since last week for a service
life upgrade. This will be the first of four major projects planned
in the next five years to replace and refurbish major components
of the 20 year old wsr-88ds and to keep the radars operational
into the 2030s.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
