The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southeastern Forrest County in southeastern Mississippi...
southern Lamar County in southeastern Mississippi...

* until 500 PM CDT

* at 157 PM CDT, emergency management reported heavy rain across the
warned area. Up to eight inches of rain have fallen in extreme
southern Forrest and Lamar counties. Flash flooding is already
occurring.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Purvis, Lumberton, Brooklyn, Maxie, Rock Hill and Baxterville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Mississippi, south
central Mississippi and southeast Mississippi, including the
following areas in central Mississippi, Copiah and Simpson. In
south central Mississippi, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Lincoln
and Marion. In southeast Mississippi, Covington, Forrest,
Jones and Lamar.

* Until 7 PM CDT this evening

* rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches in a short period of time may
lead to flash flooding, especially in areas where the ground
has been saturated by heavy rain over the past few days.

* The flooding of roads, low lying areas, and areas with poor
drainage will be possible. If encountering flooded roadways,
remember to turn around, don't drown.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
