Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 8:10 PM CDT Mar. 19, 2019 – National Weather Service


The Flood Warning continues for
the big Sunflower river near Anguilla
* until further notice.
* At 7:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 46.8 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 45.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will remain near 46.8 feet.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
northwestern Warren County in west central Mississippi...
northwestern Yazoo County in central Mississippi...
central Issaquena County in west central Mississippi...
southeastern Sharkey County in west central Mississippi...

* until 345 PM CDT Thursday.

* Significant flooding is ongoing in these areas due to rising
backwater from the closure of the Steele bayou gates and excessive
rainfall runoff from areas upstream. In addition, the Muddy Bayou
structure has now been closed.

* The gage at Steele bayou was at 96.6 feet as of noon, March 18. It
is expected to reach 97 to 97.5 feet. The extent of the current
flood waters is expected to increase in area until The Gates of
Steele bayou are opened again. This may come during early-mid
April if no more significant rains fall in the basin.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Valley Park, Holly Bluff, Fitler, Eagle Lake, Onward and Satartia.

* Major thoroughfares such as Highway 61 north and south remain
open, but Highway 465 between Highway 61 and Eagle Lake, Highway
16 between Rolling Fork and Holly Bluff, and several smaller
County roads are closed due to this flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.
