... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Kansas and Missouri,
including the following areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS,
Doniphan, Johnson KS, Leavenworth, and Wyandotte. In Missouri,
Adair, Andrew, Atchison MO, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll,
Chariton, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Gentry, Grundy,
Harrison, Holt, Jackson, Linn MO, Livingston, Macon, Mercer,
Nodaway, Platte, Randolph, ray, Sullivan, and Worth.

* Through Friday morning

* additional rounds of thunderstorms will lead to periods of heavy
rainfall, which could result in flash flooding from this morning
through Friday morning. Rainfall totals will approach 2 to 4
inches, with locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall will
fall on already saturated ground where widespread 4 to 8 inches
has already fallen.

* Excessive rainfall may result in flooding of low-lying or poor
drainage areas... creeks and streams... as well as urban areas. In
addition to the flash flood hazard, Rising River levels are also
likely.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Issued: 7:10 AM CDT Jun. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Significant weather advisory for eastern Johnson... northwestern
Cass and southwestern Jackson counties until 800 am CDT...

At 710 am CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Lenexa, moving east at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee, Lenexa, Leawood,
Raytown, Grandview, Belton, Prairie Village, Gardner, Merriam,
mission, Spring Hill, Edwardsville, Fairway, Mission Hills, Lake
Quivira, Countryside and Roeland Park.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 35 in Kansas between mile markers 211 and 229.
Interstate 470 between mile markers 0 and 3.
Interstate 435 between mile markers 0 and 8, and between mile
markers 66 and 83.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
