Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 1:47 AM CDT Aug. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill MO has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Big Creek at Blairstown.
* From early this morning to Friday morning.
* At 1:00 am Tuesday the stage was 14.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early this morning and
continue to rise to near 30.4 feet by Wednesday morning. The river
will fall below flood stage by Thursday morning.
* At 26.0 feet... many farm levees along Big Creek are overtopped.
Flooding of rural areas behind the levees occurs.
* At 23.0 feet... flooding occurs at the west approach to the N
Highway bridge located 0.2 miles west of Blairstown. Flooding also
occurs across b Highway near Big Creek which is several miles
northwest of Blairstown.
* At 20.0 feet... the West Bank of the creek begins to flood.

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southern Cass County in west central Missouri...
northern Henry County in west central Missouri...
Johnson County in west central Missouri...

* until 745 am CDT Tuesday

* at 144 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to
begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Warrensburg, Windsor, Knob Noster, Holden, Garden City, Whiteman
Air Force Base, Archie, Drexel, Leeton, Urich, Creighton,
Chilhowee, Kingsville, whiteman AFB, Centerview, Blairstown,
Fayetteville, la tour, Pittsville and Post Oak.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

* at 1241 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Warrensburg, Odessa, Higginsville, Windsor, Knob Noster, Concordia,
Holden, Garden City, Whiteman Air Force Base, Archie, Drexel,
Leeton, Urich, Creighton, Chilhowee, Kingsville, whiteman AFB, Lake
Lafayette, Centerview and Emma.

evening through Tuesday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Kansas and Missouri, including the following
areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS, Doniphan, Johnson KS,
Leavenworth, Linn KS, Miami, and Wyandotte. In Missouri,
Andrew, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Chariton,
Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Grundy, Henry, Jackson,
Johnson MO, Lafayette, Linn MO, Livingston, Pettis, Platte,
ray, Saline, and Sullivan.

* From 10 PM CDT this evening through Tuesday morning

* a storm system with a slow moving cold front will bring periods
of moderate to heavy rain to the watch area late tonight into
Tuesday morning. Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches appear
likely, however some areas may receive higher amounts before
rain comes to an end late Tuesday morning.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
