Coastal Flood Statement, High Surf Advisory
Issued: 5:05 PM EDT Apr. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory now in effect from 6 am to 6 PM EDT Tuesday...
... Water levels will approach minor flood thresholds this evening...

* location: Maryland and the lower Virginia Eastern Shore beaches.

* Timing: high surf expected Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon. Shallow
flooding possible around the time of high tide this evening.

* Coastal flood impacts: shallow flooding is possible in the most vulnerable
locations near the Waterfront and shoreline.

* Shoreline impacts: breaking waves will result in beach erosion with only
minor damage possible to dune structures.

* Surf and rip current risk: large breaking waves of 8 to 9 feet will result in
dangerous surf conditions. Do not enter or approach the water due to the risk
of being swept away.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory
area... producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions.

All tide heights are relative to mean lower low water.
Time of the high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
