... Heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...
* heat indices will peak between 100 and 105 degrees in most
locations again this afternoon. The heat index may briefly
exceed 105 degrees in the warmest locations.
* Consecutive days of heat indices above 100 degrees could have
a cumulative impact on some individuals, especially those who
engage in prolonged outdoor work or other activities. The
extended period of high heat and humidity can worsen the
effects of heat stress. Also, car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes. Never leave children, the
elderly, or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
