The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Wyandotte County in northeastern Kansas...
southeastern Leavenworth County in northeastern Kansas...
Johnson County in east central Kansas...
Clay County in west central Missouri...
southern Ray County in west central Missouri...
Lafayette County in west central Missouri...
eastern Platte County in west central Missouri...
Jackson County in west central Missouri...
northern Johnson County in west central Missouri...

* until 1100 am CDT

* at 807 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
warned area. 3 to 7 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is
already occurring.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Lee's Summit,
Shawnee, Blue Springs, Lenexa, Leawood, Raytown, Liberty,
Gladstone, Grandview, Prairie Village, Grain Valley, Excelsior
Springs, Merriam, mission, Smithville and Kearney.

* Extensive flooding has occurred near Indian Creek with water over
the Road at 103rd and wornell Rd and multiple water rescues.
Indian Creek has crested and is starting to fall. The Blue River
has also experienced minor to moderate flooding and is starting to
crest currently. Tomahawk creek reached record flooding overnight
but has crested and is starting to fall.

* This Flash Flood Warning replaces previous flash flood warnings
that will expire at 830 am CDT.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 62.
Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 410 and 423.
Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 27.
Interstate 35 in Kansas between mile markers 212 and 235.
Interstate 29 between mile markers 0 and 19.
Interstate 635 between mile markers 0 and 12.
Interstate 470 between mile markers 0 and 16.
Interstate 435 between mile markers 0 and 83.
Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 222 and 226.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* Flood Warning for
the Blue River at Bannister Road.
* Until Friday afternoon.
* At 6:45 am Thursday the stage was 30.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 34.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this morning and continue to
rise to near 39.8 feet by this afternoon. The river will fall below
flood stage by late this afternoon.
* At 34.0 feet... Woodlands along the river are flooded. Water may
also approach flood stage at 71 Highway and other downstream
locations.

the Indian Creek at Stateline Rd Leawood.
* Until further notice.
* At 6:30 am Thursday the stage was 28.0 feet and cresting.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to a stage of 21.4 feet
by Friday morning.
* At 26.0 feet... water begins to affect commercial buildings near
104th street just west of state line Road.
* At 25.0 feet... water begins to cover portions of state line Road.
* At 23.0 feet... parking lot just west of state line Road begins to
flood.
* At 20.0 feet... water begins to cover the portion of Lee Boulevard
located south of Interstate 435.

the Blue River near Stanley.

* From early this morning to Friday afternoon.
* At 5:46 am Thursday the stage was 17.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 19.8 feet by late
this morning. The river will fall below flood stage this afternoon.
* At 18.0 feet... flood waters enter the yards of a few homes along
the river and threaten rural roads.
* At 16.0 feet... farmland adjacent to the Blue River floods.

the Tomahawk creek at Roe Avenue.
* Until Friday morning.
* At 5:16 am Thursday the stage was 20.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 21.3 feet by this
morning. The river will fall below flood stage this morning.
* At 19.0 feet... flood waters approach 119th street.
* At 18.0 feet... flooding begins to affect several homes along the
creek's North Bank, just upstream of the gage site.
* At 13.0 feet... water approaches the northbound Lane of Tomahawk
creek parkway.

* At 5:15 am Thursday the stage was 17.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Record flooding is occurring and record flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 18.5 feet by this
morning. The river will fall below flood stage late this morning.
* At 18.4 feet... flood waters reach homes and garages along west
106th street, west 106th terrace, west 103rd street, Robinson,
Lamar, Horton, Indian Creek drive, Indian Creek parkwary, Beverly,
west 107th street, and El Monte.
* At 16.5 feet... flood waters approach homes along Conser street.
* At 15.1 feet... flood waters reach Antioch Road 600 feet north of
Indian Creek. Water also reaches buildings near the creek along
Antioch Road west 106th Circle and El Monte cul de SAC.
* At 14.3 feet... flood waters threaten basements along Lowell and
Antioch Road.
* At 8.0 feet... low-lying land along the creek begins to flood,
including a paved bike and walking path.

* Flash Flood Warning for...
northeastern Miami County in east central Kansas...
southern Johnson County in east central Kansas...
southern Cass County in west central Missouri...
Henry County in west central Missouri...
northern Bates County in west central Missouri...

* until 900 am CDT

* at 431 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Radar estimates rainfall rates
of 2 to 3 inches per hour with these storms. This is expected to
continue as the storms move to the southeast. Another 2 to 3
inches of rain is possible as these storms move through. Flash
flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Overland Park, Olathe, Leawood, Gardner, Clinton, Spring Hill,
Louisburg, Windsor, Adrian, Garden City, Archie, Drexel, Urich,
Calhoun, Deepwater, Montrose, Creighton, Coal, Brownington and
Blairstown.

This includes Interstate 35 in Kansas between mile markers 205 and
215.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.
